from the royal mail

and the FA/millenium won't replace them

they intend "arresting" all folks that turn up with nicked tickets and then leaving 1600 seats empty on saturday , meanwhile 1600 real fans will knot be goiing to the game

organisation at it's best

The tickets are being replaced by the Liverpool ticket office (It was Liverpool end that were stolen). All tickets were sent recorded delivery so they know exactly which tickets/seats were stolen.

The ballot has merely been delayed because of the robbery, it was supposed to take place today.

unfortunately i hear on rawk the ballot might be scrapped because of this...not happy.

yep , looks like they are removing 1600 from the ballot to replace them , not fair on the folks that will lose out

Looks like the BBC have completely oversimplified the situation:

Those comments from Paul Sergeant are a right load of cobblers as well. Surely if they cared in the slightest about the 1600 fans who will miss out then they could print tickets for the affected seats that are visibly very different to the original tickets. Anybody turning up with one of those tickets would be able to use the seat. Anybody with an original ticket for the affected seats gets carted off by the stewards/police for questioning. Problem solved.

thats an absolute disgrace. they cant possibly arrest 1600 people tho, not a chance to much man power needed for that. all theyd get is "i got them in the pub off some dodgy geezer"

by the way ive got around 1000-1600 tickets for the fa cup, i won them in a comp but im just gonna sell them off, anyone?? ;) :D

The same happened a few years ago for the Liverpool - man utd final , when we arrived at the game we were dragged off into a room to be told out tickets were among the stolen ones ( had me baffled as mine were from the club ) , finally a five past 3 they admitted that they had made a mistake and ours were ok

Thats how I had thought it could be done too , the reality is that the vast majority of folks turning up with nicked tickets will get in and see the game with genuine fans losing out

the only slight concern I have as well is that this could be a hoax to undermine the black market for tickets , if around 1 in 15 tickets have been nicked how come I have not seen one person on any forum say that theirs were among the stolen ones

That was my first thought when the story first broke last week. Although if that was the case I'd assume that the cover story would be blown pretty quickly unless more details of the supposed robbery came out. Have people been saying much about the robbery itself? I did see mentioned that Radio City were also hit recently and loads of tickets for gigs were nicked so tickets could just as easily be the hot new thing to steal in Liverpool.

Reports from the TO say ballot tickets will not be used to replace stolen tickets and currently as no duplicates will be issued, all stolen seats will be left empty, no one with stolen tickets will be allowed in, cant see them arresting them all though. They also claim that actually just under 600 tickets were stolen, not 1600.

There argument is that they won't be able to cope with the extra 1600 fans turning up. Im sure an extra 1600 won't make too much of a difference when your talking about 70,000 fans going to be there anyway (plus fans who have turned up hoping to buy a ticket outside the ground or just going for the atmosphere).

AROUND 1,600 Reds fans are going to miss the FA Cup Final.

The season ticket holders' tickets stolen from a Royal Mail van in the city centre on Friday are not being reissued.

Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, which hosts the cup final against West Ham on Saturday, left Liverpool fans reeling by refusing to issue duplicate tickets, even though all the stolen tickets have been identified and cancelled.

Anyone sat in seats corresponding to those cancelled tickets will be ejected from the ground. The Football Association today insisted it was powerless to intervene in the row.

The stadium's Safety Advisory Group of police, fire services and Cardiff county council, said it had made the controversial move on safety grounds.

Tim Pearson, 45, from Southport, had bought tickets for himself and his daughters, aged 17 and 13, which were stolen in the raid.He will now have to watch the game at home on TV.

He told the ECHO: "This is terrible and will leave hundreds of genuine fans gutted.

"Pressure needs to be put on the FA to make them step in and rectify this as it's totally wrong."

Fans were being contacted by Liverpool today who told them the situation was out of their hands and were waiting on further guidance.

An FA spokesman said: "This is not our decision."

Quoted from todays Liverpool Echo

I can see the issue about saftey. The police have got to eject potentially up to 1600 people from the stadium. Add into the mix an extra 1600 fans with re-issued tickets trying to perform their own evictions when they arrive at their seat to see someone sat in it then you just have a potential for a riot on your hands.

I don't know why the 'new' breed of stadiums dont fit themselves with barcode scanners like there are on the continent. Benfica's stadium uses train ticket sized tickets that are all machine readable so you have pretty much zero chance of a forgery. If your ticket is stolen, that barcode is cancelled and no entry is possible.

I really do feel for those without tickets as it has been a nightmare trying to sort everyone out with one this time round. Plus, it means anyone attempting to buy one outside the ground is running the risk of buying one of the stolen ones and getting arrested for their troubles.

i've been to quite a few concerts lately and the last 2 concerts both had Bar codes and they were Standing tickets too boot.
at the last gig i went to, Bruce sprinsgteen, the security guy scanned my ticket, di'dnt take a sec and i was on my way.

i hope the genuine ticket holders get in though.

i cant beleve that the FA are just going to leave 1600 seats free in the milenium stadium.

Hey Rotty, reports are coming out of Spain that we have signed Auerlio on a free transfer, apaprently he's signed for 4 years.

http://www.marca.com/edicion/marca/futbol/1a_division/valencia/es/desarrollo/647085.html

which means along the lines of:

Madrid-Based Marca have confirmed that Liverpool have sewn up the deal to bring in Left Full-back Fabio Aurelio from Valencia on a Free Transfer.

Although this is old news, its worthwhile noting that some sources still had Villareal or even Real Madrid as contenders for his signature.

He should be vying for a place in the left-back slot with John Arne Riise and Stephen Warnock.

Here is the original story in today's paper (for those who speak Spanish).
