160kbps upstearm? how?

just found out the reason why its so slow:

Results for exchange: Stevenage
Congestion:
Congestion status on this exchange is RED.

Your telephone line has been identified as being on a congested exchange. If you are receiving varying speeds between 400kbs - 2000kbs at different times of the day this is likely to be a result of the congestion issue.

A provisional date of Dec 15, 2006 has been set for upgrading this exchange.
Major Service Outages
There are no Major Service Outages on your line at this present time

Sorry OP we have seemed to H/J your thread sorry ;)

Beerbaron you have answered your own question :D Thoes are spot on results for your line stats, Take back what I said about the stuck 2Meg profile :p this dosent apply in your case, after 10pm you will always get faster download speeds then during the day due to congestion etc.. Just curious does deamon throttle/slowdown downstream speeds??

well you have only been with them 7 days, its usually anywhere withing 7-10 for them to get everything right with your line after signing up

ive just started with demon as well. im on the home office 8000. it went live as of last tuesday but it was active from the sat. my router synchs between 4500 and 5800kbps yet it feels very slow. various speed tests suggest im getting between 1 and 2mb :(

i get anything from 6100 to 6600 and im on home office 8000 also ;-)

Just be clear, on this line within the last 10 days you have been getting speeds of 6Mb+ but are now experiencing speeds of 160K ?

Have you done the obvious stuff like check you have everything filtered properly ?

Have you connected the router directly to the test port inside the master socket if so what are the line stats when doing this ? Sync rate and SNR

The wireless signal will not be affected by the BB speeds so if that is playing up as well have you tried a different router as if 2 unrelated features on the router have suddenly started to go wrong my first thought would be the router is dying.

I had a Dlink 504T Syncing @ 160kbs downstream every now and then (which was annoying becasue 3 days @ ISDN speeds are not fun)

turned out after a week of me pulling my hair out to be the ADSL rj11 cable (the one which goes from the router to the filter)

replaced it, been fine ever since
