In a lot of situations, especially at social gatherings I find myself sticking to my Sigma 30mm F1.4 all the time, mainly because of it's low-light ability and reasonable view angle.
However I often want something wider, but my 17-40L at F4 often can't get enough light and lacks that nice shallow DOF. So I was thinking of trading up (or along..) to the 17-55mm IS. The way I figure it I get F2.8 if I need it for decent shallow DOF, the IS will allow me to shoot in lower light, and I get that extra reach which is handy.
It seems better in every way from most reviews, apart from the lack of weather sealing.. which I hope won't be a problem
