17. No job. No GCSE's. No experience.

What are your interests?

I left school with mostly D's in GCSE (a few B's and C's in non-relevant subjects,) but since school I've; gained my USPTR and LTA tennis coaching certificates, built my own small online business and now I'm working as a Clinical Coder at a hospital with my medical coding foundation course under my feet :D

Now I'm just working on getting a place onto a Japanese degree course at university as a mature student. This is purely for personal interest, I'm not thinking of a career from it. If something turns up on the way then great!

I dont know what your reasons are, but school bored the hell outta me. In the end I got really depressed in school because I worried about qualifications. All my mates knew what they wanted to do, I didn't have a clue and, quite frankly, it scared me. So I ended up doing nothing but think myself into a hole and my school work (and my earlier life in general) struggled from it.

The key thing I came to realise is, don't go worrying about the future. Just concentrate on things you "wouldn't mind" doing for now and get used to working. Then keep your eyes out for things that seem a bit more interesting and then before you know it, opportunities pop-up and you'll find yourself in good positions.

Either a. Get back to school NOW and resit everything (swallow your pride and lump i with the year below)
b. Get down to the bk lounge or mcD's and work 6 days a week for the next 2 years (apparently the pay structure sort of peaks at 2 years)
c. Work the street corners (who knows what you'll earn...)

I would prefer to clean public toilets than join the army and I hope you've made your ego feel better by saying that's all I'm good for.

then go clean toilets?
why the hatred of joining the forces? daddy was in the forces and you didnt like it?

During my last year of school I didn't attend much because of problems I don't want to discuss.

Because of this I didn't get any GCSE's and didn't get into College.

I was off half of year11 due to an operation, I still got 10GCSE's. Anyone can get GCSE's with some sort of effort.

No GCSE's means you are screwed,as every other person now has them so they arent even considered anything special (and on top of that they are very VERY easy).
GO back to college and get your GCSEs and take it from there.......or all you are good for is an asda till bitch.

Joining something you're 100% against doesn't really make sense does it?

you are 100% against the security of our nation, or are you talking about something else?
also, who says you need to agree with it to be in the forces? you dont have to go and shoot people.

Hello guys.

During my last year of school I didn't attend much because of problems I don't want to discuss.

Because of this I didn't get any GCSE's and didn't get into College.

What options do I have now? I really want to find work, but all the things I look at require experience except the really bad jobs which no one wants to do.

Will I have to take a crappy job? I'd love to work in I.T as I feel it's the only thing I'm good at, but I don't know which part of I.T and I'm pretty sure companies wont take on people who have no qualifications.

Any advice on this matter please?

Thanks.

There is nothing you can't do. Although you have to face facts that you are starting a few meters behind the start line.

Personally I would try to do another year at school and at least get english and maths qualifications.

However, if you must start out I would certainly do some night school. There are quite a few courses at college where you don't need many/any qualifications to start.

Like I said it's not impossible to do anything you want. Go for it.

I have a couple of friends who earn a nice packet yet started the same as you.

Look, you really dont have to go to college. Its nice to have English and Maths, but you can do them at night school.

Answer yourself this, if money was no object, ie, you had 5 mill in the bank, what job would you want to do, then go workout how to do it, what you need in exams ect and get it done. Its your life, you decide, you sort out the crap, you will get all types of people telling you different advice, thats life, we all have different paths we have taken and listening is good. But without you know what goal you want, no matter how insane it is to you, go for it.

But maths and English are good ones to get.

What school did you attend though? Please say it wasn't Edensor or Blurton.

Excuse me.
My daughters got 12 & 14 GCSE's respectively at Blurton and 8 of my students come from there to me twice a week.
They've just set on an ex Blurton maths teacher who has come to work with me.

Very narrow minded view there mglover. You are of course wrong.

If everybody could get GCSE's and they were so very very easy, why do we not have 100% pass rate for 10 GCSE's?

And having no GCSE's certainly DOES NOT mean you can't acheive. As stated earlier, i have 2 GCSE's (Maths & English @ C) and i am currently averaging a 1st at university.

The advantage i have is that when all my mates were studying, i was out gaining work experience which when i finish uni, will give me an advantage over all the guys who went straight from GCSE to degree, who cant get a job because they have never worked a day in their lives! They are the people who end up being waiters and supermarket staff.

The people who do the greatest things in this world are people with ambition and drive, not smug people who found it 'very easy' to get 10 GCSE's.

People say poor schools. There's very few poor schools. The kids who want and are willing to do well, do well.
Its not as simple as that.

Rich or poor school, it all depends on the social and environmental influence on the growing child. Even if a child wants to do really well in school, sometimes it simply isn't possible due to their surrounding influences.

Be it either family troubles, bullying, the pressure to fit in etc. For the majority of young children in "poorer" areas, fear sets in and the pupil conforms to make life easier for him/herself.

There are many reasons why able children do not achieve at School.

Parents divorce, depression, bullying, abuse, mental issues, over intelligence (bordom), low self confidence...

Sometimes it is not possible for these kids to do well because of external factors.

Of course there a many who simply 'dont care', although that can usually be put down to a poor upbringing and home environment, which again, could be argued isn't the childs fault.

Life isn't as simple as you make it out to be i'm afraid.

Edit:
Eggyoke beat me to it.

then that case my friend you are doing an easy course at an absolutely dreadful university, you doing african studies with bird watching or something:p If you can get into uni with nothing, then the uni isnt very good is it and the course probably isnt worth much.

GCSE's are easy, 100% of people do not get them because they do no work or do not attend school, or get expelled, or simply dont care etc. People way below average can get a few A*'s with lots of effort in GCSE's (I got no A*s or anything fancy, I was lazy at school), this does not happen in Alevels, but GCSE's are very very easy.

My next door neighbour was near the top of RAC (some directing position) when he sarted as windscreen fitter but when he lost his job he had no Alevels and so was screwed.
Some people make it in life without qualifications, but qualifications are so so important.

Read above about the many reasons why many children under achieve.

What you dont seem to understand is that because someone only passes 2 GCSE's, doesn't mean they are stupid.

I for one, had issues making it impossible for me to attend school for the final 2 years. Why should this detract from my acheivements now? I think the fact that i am averaging a 1st is very impressive.

I found your cheap dig towards myself unnecessary and very narrow minded.

I agree that the GCSE's seem to be 'easier' than they previously were, but still, it doesn't mean that any Tom, Dick or Harry can achieve A grades.

From the sounds of things, you must have a good academic brain. Its a shame it seems your lacking in other area's of intelligence.

Gil.

As for your RAC friend;

'If' he held a directors position within this 'massive' company. He would have no problems finding a new job. What a load of rubbish.
