17 years since my last build, advice please

I've also adjusted a bit, I don't mind B grade stuff.
Personally, I don't think the discount on those parts is worth it, given the troubleshooting headache that might result.

I'd go for capacity over speed (preferably with XMP not required) and an alternative SSD if you can't find a nice discount (they're on sale a lot).

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £232.93 (includes delivery: £3.99)

i've been thinking...i just wonder whether we are overspeccing the psu a bit a lot for a system that will never have a gpu and will never draw more than 300w (350w if you have a lot of drives)
i'm pondering whether a £25 saving and getting this would be more suitable instead: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seasonic-g12-gc-650-650w-80-gold-power-supply-pow-ssc-03155.html
Yes

But Your giving him options if needs change and become more demanding so I would ask the op.

also the b860m ds3h VRMs are extremely pants. these are 5 phase vcore VRMs (gigabyte doesn't say what amps these are, so they should be 50A or less), i wouldn't trust this board to run the 265k at full pelt without the VRMs being thermal throttled.
if you really want to go budget dumpster diving, i would opt for the cheaper EAGLE version instead. these are actually a tier up from the DS3H and have 6 vcore VRM phases (as opposed to the DS3H's 5)

budget motherboard choice i would go for (though granted also OOS at ocuk, annoyingly): https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asro...-1851-ddr5-atx-motherboard-mot-asr-04092.html - 10 phase vcore VRM (£150)

but personally i wouldn't skimp out on the VRMs because it sounds like you will run the cpu at full pelt for hours on end? if this is the case then i'd suck it up and pay for a proper Z890 board
This board that I originally specced: GIGABYTE Z890 EAGLE WIFI7 - is available for cheaper than the £200 that ocuk are asking for, elsewhere

My opinion on the G12-GC is that it is overpriced. They're both Helly-built PSUs, but the AMP GH has a better fan, a passive mode, supports ATX 3.x (bundled with a 12v-2x6 cable) and based on reviews comparing the two platforms, likely to have better parts in other ways.

probably.

personally i would be happy running this system with no GPU on a CX650/CV650 :cry:

@SexyGreyFox
I know you haven't used MM for quite a while now, but there's a deal for this combo: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/core-ultra-7-265k-z890-aorus-elite-wifi7.19002647/

I think you should get this. Comes with a proper Z890 board, and also, you can then spend the £100-ish saved on better RAM.

@Nevakonaza

One problem with the video outputs of the Gigabyte.
I can see the Display Port for my Primary but my secondary monitor uses HDMI and is also my TV, I presume I just buy a Thunderbolt 4 to HDMI cable?
