£1700 Upgrade, quite a bit more than I've done before

I'd say all good for hardwares, but just the case.

900D is more like ultimate watercooling case, if you are not planning to go watercooling, 900D is really too large for you.

I would go for the 540s if you are not thinking about getting a high end case like the Caselabs.

A 120GB SSD will fill up real quick. I am by no means a heavy pc gamer, and my Plextor 128GB is nearly always full.

thats why i go a 2nd SSD for my games ...and the 120 i have is for my OS and its only half full :)

i just use the "other half" for files i may download straight to the desktop

Once you've seen the 540 Air, its just such a great piece of kit in my opinion.

You don't have the mess of cables etc. and you get to see that beauty of a system you've built.

If you bought 2 x 120GB SSD's rather than 1 x 250GB SSD it would work out more expensive. Operating system, games and programs on the SSD and then a HDD for storage would be my choice.

The 540 is a great case, though I just cracked my knee on the edge of it as it sits closer to me under the desk.

over a grand and no hex core? Wouldn't it be useful for the rendering work the Op is doing?

Seriously Willis, What are you on about?

A 4930k is about a third of the budget.

The 4770k will actually be used as a virtual 8-core CPU while rendering, so no need.

I think we're in the right ball-park already.
