Evening lads, basically I got tempted by the 1700x @ £150 brand new, and potentially will pair the B450 strix ITX. Will Precision Boost Overdrive + offset voltage work? I heard manual overclock doesn't work as efficient as PBO + performance enhancer or anything like that. If I'm not mistaken, the best way to achieve good multi and single core performance on AMD is enabling PBO + performance enhancer and tweaking the voltage via offset mode, is that true?
Never have any AMD so I'm clueless. Thanks for any input guys!

There is only 1 board that shines on PBO settings, with offsets etc. That is the Aorus X470 Gaming 7.
Asus boards have PBO (most) without offset and all asus boards have the tendency to overpower. Now handmade overclock all is fine tbh, if your cooling is even the stock cooler.

Given that the B450I Strix goes around 157-160 and the X470I Strix £174, the latter is far superior board, with great VRM cooling, really good overclocks (4.3 is possible, 4.2 most certain for Ryzen 2700s) and supports 3600Mhz-4000 ram assuming your ram kit can do it, or is rated for that speed. So it will be able to push the 1700X to it's limits.

If I was going for ITX board that is the one my money could go on. Yet wait some others to answer above.

Cheers Panos, the two boards share the same vrm design and the heatsinks look to be nearly identical in size. That's why I tend to prefer the cheaper option.
My ram is no problem.
About PBO, is it a motherboard feature? or is it dependent on the CPU?

I have been look at mini-ITX motherboards the MSI B450i Gaming PLUS AC probably has the best VRM on a B450 mini-ITY boards for a Ryzen CPU AFAIK:

So if you were doing a straight overclock it would probably be the best motherboard, although for PBO apparently the B450 Strix has the edge. OTH,the MSI board is cheaper.
thanks CAT, the MSI definitely is within my consideration given its attractive price!

As i've already said Cat, PBO is not available with 1st gen Ryzen (1700x), regardless of whatever mobo you use.

Thanks for the help guys, I just ordered the 1700X, leaning toward the Asus ITX instead of MSI since I’m a bit more familiar with Asus bios. Now only need to find some Hynix C-die as they seem pretty good and new.
