Having owned an import DC2 for about a month, most of which has been used to commute; I'll put my 2 pence worth into it.
Commuting
Noise: I have an apexi exhaust and spoon intake, yet on a motorway drive its quiet enough to listen to music and not give you a headache. The stock car will be even less noisy so I would really downplay this an an issue. The second you put the foot down to overtake it springs back to life and growels away. Rev's wise, at 70 on the motorway its at about 3800rpm which again means it doesn't get on your nerves.
Comforts: Recaro seats are AMAZING, they constantly give you a cuddle. Interior is very basic feeling, but it does have bits of fake CF telling you that your in an integra incase you forgot and I do quite like the sparce and raw feeling but it might not be for everyone (still prefer it to cheap french plastics like in the clio). The gearstick has a very nice feel too it. Gadgets wise It has everything you need aircon, some heating controls and a stereo. The stock speakers aren't very good (mine doesn't have rear speakers as it was an optional extra and the front ones are too low, it sounds like its coming out your feet).
The drive: Right, I have coilovers and an extra spoon rear brace. On the motorway the car is great, it feels so stable and the steering is very sharp with no weird judders. The biggest problem I'm having is when I turn off into some of the lesser maintained B roads around the lanarkshire area. The ride in mine is bone shattering and I have found myself going 1mph over sections of road that are pot holed. Speedbumps make me cringe. This wouldn't be a problem in a stock teg however so this point can be ignored.
All round: Very nice car for commuting in. Not too loud when your not gunning it, very very comfy place to be in and just an all round nice experience driving to work along the motorway. Only bad point is the stock speakers I'd say.
Spirited driving
Noise: When gunning it the engine sounds amazing
Handling: This is without a doubt the best handling car I have ever driven. Its absolutly nailed to the road. It can corner so hard your brain gets all mushed up to the side of your head. Thanks to the front LSD, when you start to lose it in the corner, you just boot it harder and the diff locks itself and drags you through the bend. I have done corners in the teg in speeds that I wouldn't have thought possible in the Accord Type-R. On some nice bendy roads its just so fun, I really really dont think the clio would handle as well as the teg.
Power: Off VTEC the car is a bit of a panzy, but I guess thats the point. The B series VTEC cut in is very aggressive and the car pulls soooo fast after 5800rpm. Gearchanges are very easy thanks to the nice feeling box and quite short shifter. The high rev limit means you wont fall out the powerband like some other VTEC engined cars. I had a wee "encounter" with a focus ST and he either gained nor lost ground on me, so the wee 1.8 litre NA engine can really do its stuff! Its probably the most powerful of the Type-Rs bar the DC5 and the NSX, it pulls ahead of my mates EP3.
Brakes: On a 96 spec car the stock 260mm front brakes aren't amazing given how fast you can be going in it. Saying that, upgraded prelude/civic brakes are very cheap and easy to fit. I have a set of Civic type-r calipers, 300mm brakes and pads winging their way to me now for the giant sum of £210
All round: Absolutly mental is the only real word for it. Its like there is a second person in the car at all times just egging you to go faster and try the next corner a bit harder. I have found myself calmly joining the motorway, only to get carried away and found myself braking at 130mph plus because it was just too fun to stop accelerating. If you want a car for occasonal track use then this is the one too get. Even when just driving about day to day I have found myself grinning and saying out loud "I love this thing!", its just so planted, so responsive, looks mean, sounds mean, infact thinking about it I might have to go touch myself.
