Hi Everyone

I have been going through the forums for the last few days looking for inspiration for my new gaming pc and could use some expert help. if i get some fast help on this i will be ordering in the morning. and i will post some screenies / benchmarks upon build completion.

Requirements:

0) i have an oculus rift dev kit 2 on its way. (possibly irrelavent lol)

1) Water Cooled: all internal, happy for cpu only, wont be overclocked but I would like a fairly quiet machine.

2) just got a 4k 40" screen, interested in upgrading within 6 months with a second gfx card, so SLI capability is a must. starting with 2x gfx cards is not out of the question , will the price drop that much for a second card in 6 months or so ? or by the time the consumer rift releases in the summer ?

3) Ive always been on the Nvidia side, would like to stay there unless theres a very compelling reason i have missed. same for Intel.

4) Need win 8.1, 512 gig ssd and a 2 gig hd.

5) would like a gigabyte MB for the free upgrade thingie.

6) would prefer if its using the latest chipset and socket.

7) Build budget is flexable if you can justify it.

the Rig will be mostly for rift dev work / gaming: eve, wow, fallout 4, star citizen. movies and some audio work. i hope the requirements are not too limiting and i apriciate you taking the time to read this.

Thanks in advance,

Tommy.

Hey,

Window doesnt matter,

i think i want to go with AIO water cooling, at a later date i might need an extra boost via overclocking it.

doesnt need to be quiet all the time, just when playing a movie,

is there no way i can maybe drop a graphics card and stretch to a x99 chipset with ddr 4 ?

thanks a lot guys for taking time on this, im researching on each component and option as i go here. looking interesting so far.

thanks for the reply doom, im starting to get a feel for whats going on in terms of cpu / motherboards etc, i only ever get into this in depth every few years when its time to get a new pc, so im perpetually rusty lol.

by going X99 i assumed that i would get a possible upgrade path 2 years down the line for both cpu and ram, while saving on the cost of a new mb. thats kinda why i was so set on it, i do see that there is no real performance benefit for my usage pattern, theres probably an element of just wanting the latest kit too.

as for cases, ive got a new glass desk on its qway and i would love to get a
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-037-IW&groupid=2362&catid=2293 to go with it, but again its out of stock, are there any other good cases out there using glass ?

thanks again for the research on this guys, gona get a couple of hours sleep before i order and check for any last minute updates or suggestions. will let you know what the final build is, tbh im not 100% what way its gona go yet, maybe if i get the mrs a new dish washer i can bump the budget up a bit lol.

quick update,

i went with the x99 build, added in the second graphics card, and got a second ssd and hdd, all the parts should arrive on friday.

thanks everyone for their input on this, you guys should be getting a commission :) if anyone is interested i can maybe do a build log, pics, benchmarks etc. im gona setup the 2x ssd's in raid 0 for a month or so while working out a final config to run long term, looking forward to getting stuck in.

thanks everyone for the help on this. \o
