I do. It'll be generally about myself when I write the odd song, but usually I prefer just writing about things in general. I find I'm great at picking up an idea and running with it when I have it, but often far harder to force myself to write about something in particular, even if that thing interests me.

I also find I sometimes 'drift away' a bit in my writing, and kind of forget what my original point was. I guess I need to tighten my style up a bit.

I'm better at writing boring non-fiction stuff :o

I'd quite like to go into journalism, I think.
 
I use to write a lot - poems, short stories, erotica etc etc
Then my dad got ill and I didn't really have time between being his carer, doing my GCSEs and working.
After he died 7 years ago I tried to go back to my writing but it was like there is nothing left in my head, no dreams, no fantasies, no inspiration.

I've probably written 2 maybe 3 short poems since he died and thats it.
 
I've written all my life. Got two manuscripts finished (though they need rejigging) and have always written for pleasure. studied journalism but ended up working in IT somehow which took up all my time up until the latter part of last year when I decided I needed to make a change and really put some effort into my writing. Got a job in as Editor/journalist (had no commercial experience, begged for a two week trial and proceeded to blow their socks off :D and went permanent after the first week) Now get paid to write day in day out. Love it lots. writing is great :D

Always looking out for new talent, so email me if you're good at writing and er...like cars :D

PS.... if you think reading a few weeks back is good now, wait til you can go back years and read what you've written. Always a unique experience!

Takhisis - that's really sad :( Try and find your mojo again because your experiences will only make you a better writer :)

I actually do prefer writing; when at school and college I would always write out my coursework or my essays first and then type them - not sure why, I just find it easier to get my ideas down on paper via a pen or pencil

me too :) i think quicker than I type and it's easier to scribble stuff down on paper. It's a routine for me too, just helps me concentrate and not get distracted by the internet etc!
 
Also I have a habit of going off on a tangent so being able to shuffle pages around and scribble "See page 4" and then forget to number the pages helps :)

haha..and why do you *always* think you will remember what your abbreviations meant?? I scribble them then read back and think...'what on earth does THAT mean??' :eek:
 
or when you write too fast and end up missing words out of sentences or end up with "an dthe" kinda combinations... :)

you'll get back into it. I had a long break when I had 'writers cramp' due to odd personal circumstances and I just couldn't make it work. You can't force it, but you'll be amazed when it comes back. Just start slow, start carrying a notebook (if you dont already) and jot things down that catch your eye. That worked for me and now I can't stop... :)
 
I wrote a bit years ago but since the kids came along I've not really continued. I am writing a sequel to the Mr. Benn series for my kids though.

I enjoy sci-fi and have toyed with the idea of writing a screenplay based on the Iain M Banks 'Culture' novels. I am also in the process of establishing a web site for use as a platform for showcasing home-grown sci-fi work, be it literature, graphic novels, film or artwork (e-mail me if you'd like to know more about the site).

It says Suffice not suffer. :cool: I wouldn't hurt short words (or people ;) ). I can type much faster than i can write although i do admit, the internet and MSN does result in a much slower work productivity.
 
I love it, never seem to get much of a chance anymore though :(
Pity as I used to write all the time when I was younger.
 
I might start writing down personal stuff, I reckon I'd enjoy it. I always thought blog writing would be fun but I think most people combine fiction and fact fairly artfully.
