.

America is quite the central hub for Jewish people. Bar Israel of course ;)

I have numerous Jewish friends and clients - fortunately not of the extreme and fanatical type - but none of them live up to their stereotypes either (and they don't support the Israeli politics either - hence why I'm friends with them :p)

I think the UK is low in general on religious affairs as less and less people are interested in it. The low number of Jews in the UK doesn't surprise me really... Afterall the UK is a Christian country predominantly (well divisions of it, CoE, Protestant etc...)

Is the population of Jewish people low in this country in relation to other religions? I hope people don't take offense to this post, I am genuinely interested.

I think your find the reason for the low percentage is the Judaism isnt an expansive religon. As a religon it does not seek to expand it numbers or convert people to Judaism. It is possible to convert however it is a long an complicated process.

The Jewish population is a small growing population manly due to the above reason but also due to the way that the religon is passed on, in order to be Jewish your mother must be Jjewish, hence if a Jewish man marries a non jewish wife and has children they're children wouldn't be Jewish. I hope this explains the relative low static compared to what your we're expecting.

Until I moved to London I never really had any contact with Jews either. AFAIK the main Jewish communities in the UK are centred around parts of north and west London; particularly the Golders Green/Finchley areas. Manchester apparantly also has a Jewish community (but don't know where).

I know a few, went to school with them ie 6th form. The area i live in Gantshill whish is about 10 mins from ilford used to have a very high population of Jewish people around. My next door neighbour, old lady that she was...was jewish but sadly passed away a few yrs ago.
15 yrs ago when i first moved here, there were quite a few jews around...now there isnt so much...they more or less moved out of the area...think most of them went over to golders green or north london side if i recall. Still have the jewish place of worship in Ilford, just down the road from me.

Some interesting information. Cheers guys :) I never realised all of this, but it makes sense.

Quite a few here in Leeds. (Jews, not Jedis) Practicing ones as well. I think there's some kind of fund for scholarships in Jewish Studies at the university so it's a popular place for Jewish kids to come study.

Gateshead has a large Jewish population.

Jewgirls are fun when they let their hair down.

I used to live right next to Saltwell park where most of my neighbours were Jewish.
Very nice bunch of people, pretty much kept themselves to themselves.
