.

As said, avoid Hatfield if you can. Welwyn Garden City is better but then parts of that are pretty shoddy too.

There are many nice areas near to Hatfield but it all depends on how much you can afford to spend as they can be expensive around here. Pretty much everywhere is expensive unless you start going up the A1 to the likes of Letchworth/Baldock (avoid Stevenage!).

Who are you working for in Hatfield? t-mob by any chance? or have you bagged a job at that nice porsche garage hehe :D

depends on how far you want to commute. St albans and Hitchin have nice areas

Agreed but St Albans will cost a hell of a lot to rent in. Sandridge could be a good idea, inbetween St Albans and Hatfield but will be cheaper than St Albans.

Hertford and Harpendon are not bad either. Again it's down to cost and the commute though.

As an ex student living in hatfield for 3 years at the university of hertfordshire, I can confirm that the whole of hatfield is a complete dump full of complete scum
If you have to live in Hatfield, get a place on the same side of the A1(M) as the nice Porsche garage as mentioned.

Stevenage is a dump. Welwyn looks nice but has absolutely nothing to do. letchworth is ok, but only marginally more to do than welwyn.

hitchin is a mare in rush hour (more than other places imo) - traffic in both directions for getting to M1 or A1

For the love of god man live in st albans!
I live in Hatfield for Uni, the Uni is good but the town upsets me!

If you do move down to St Albans, drop me a line, I pride myself on knowing all the best pubs in St Albans!

EDIT- Saying that there are some alright places in Old Hatfield.

i live in welwyn garden city, its ok. nothing to do thou, as said above. Actually have a flat i rent out too, but currently occupied, loads to rent locally thou :)

there seems to be a surprising amount of people from WGC and Hatfield on here !
There are plenty of rental opportunities in WGC, take a look at rightmove.co.uk

There are some reasonable areas of Stevenage with some relative new builds, your money will go further but then the commute is obviously further.

Oh and that Porsche garage looks nice !, drive past it on the way to and from Hockey at De Hav

I've also just got myself a new job in Hatfield. Well more of a transfer really. Living in Nottingham at the moment and have been since november last year.

one of the main reasons for taking the position in hatfield is to get away from the hole nottingham thing. we only moved here from berkshire because of the job and now we're regretting it. it's not a good place to bring up a young family and certainly the roughest place i've ever lived.

anyway so i take it hatfield is a no-go, as is stevenage. we're looking at WGC at the moment, well just east of there, and sandridge sounds nice too.

anyone spot a decent sized 3 bed place in an area where there is no chav scum let me know?

cheers
