How old was the dyson? IF losing suction it's normally the cyclone getting clogged - they diagnosed ours over the phone and sent a new one out free, this was after we'd had it 4 years, it worked fine after that until we replaced it with another.

hmm I'd stick with a Dyson too. Ours is maybe 5 years old now? And still has efficient suction and leaves the carpet lovely afterwards.

We have a Henry too, and although very cute to have a little face following you around as you hoover, i find unless i am specifically careful where he wheels himself, he bashes into my furniture!

uhh Miele are well reputed also, but i have a certain element of "stick to what you know". If you're dyson did what it said on the tin, and was reliable then get another one.

We have had Dysons for the last 10 years and only had one problem when a motor packed in and it was replaced foc.
The one we have now was only bought because it was a newer model and the first one is still used in the garage.
You cant go wrong now as they all have a five year warranty.

My Dyson cylinder is about 8 years old now (Jesus I'm getting old) and it's losing suction. The joints in the wand are getting worn and letting air through but that's it.

I prefer bagless if I'm honest and I'd normally say have a test at a store with some of the other brand bagless cleaners, but now the price of the Dysons has dropped so much I think they are better value.

Miele/Henry > all others (excepting Kirby, but I'd imagine you don't want to fork out a grand for a vacuum cleaner).

Miele will be slightly better, but less robust than a Henry.

Get a Henry Turbo, everyone loved dragging a little red face around by his nose!

Our henry is all most a fully fledged house mate! No student house is complete without that litte fella. I am convinced that his nose is going to break off one day though.

Cheers guys. Well, I've heard great things about Miele and their lab equipment is great. I think I may pop down and get this. My dyson is well over 5 years so I'm not going to attempt to get in touch with them. We have no pets so this should suffice.
