I want to replace the fan on my Akasa AK-876. I have a 21CFM/20dba fan on there ATM but it doesn't quite cut it. I've heard that Silenx fans are really worse than they're cracked up to be. Any suggestions?
Or a 92mm fan with 80mm mounts, not many around though these days.
Thanks.

If thats a heatsink, which I suspect it is, you need static pressure more than you need airflow.

Just go for the best 80mm fan you can find. I like the zalmans, but they've got nothing on my 120mm scythes. Time for a new cooler perhaps?

I'm just trying to rid myself of the AK-876 stock fan (yes, is a heatsink fan) which is loud and also the figures are exaggurated, really badly (bear in mind anyone wanting to buy - the fan is almost definitely sleeve bearing, shows many characteristics of sleeve bearing, NOT dual ball bearing)

Looks good, but it wouldn't fit. none-standard design.

Mechatronics. They make (made?) a fan that was 53cfm at 12v so at 7v was still really good air-flow but effectively silent.

But I'd go along with the others and suggest a new heatsink that uses 120mm fans.

I've read though all posts above & a few comments concerned me, so...

Running your main CPU fan at anything other than 12v scares the **** outta me, unless you've checked CPU temperatures or have some electronics doing the fan speed controlling in relation to the stress placed on the CPU!

If you replace it with another 80mm your best bet is to get something with ball bearing bearings for many reasons, the biggest factor being long term reliability.

Specific recommendations are difficult, as it's bizarrely difficult to find the best fans actually for sale outside of Japan. Mechatronics A8025S12D is in theory your best bet, ticks all the boxes and it's inexpensive.

Be very careful when reading reviews and making comparisons, as most reviews are based on the assumption you want the fan as a case fan.

The Be Quiet Silent Wings USC might be the answer. It's had great reviews, has bearings suitable for high temperature environment & is available from ****** at about £11

Lol at the stars in my post above, if you want to know where to get one mail me at rog119m at g mail dot com .... wonder if that'll produce any stars! ;)
