18:9 Aspect Ratio in new flagship phones

Agreed kona. Samsung have built an unassailable lead in the market and their name is synonymous with Android phones. They do whatever they want to do and are aware that consumers will still buy their devices in droves. The more discerning of us are aware of different options available such as other OEMs and don't necessarily want to jump on the bandwagon or buy into the hype of long curved screens. That however is the beauty of a free market. You like long curved screens you'll buy a Samsung device, you don't you'll look elsewhere.

So far I'm enjoying the new resolution and not finding it much of a problem.

What's important to me is that it's enabled a much slimmer handset in width left to right than what i would typically have had to put up with on a tradition phone sporting a 5.8inch display.

Apps aren't an issue so far when forced to full screen and even through video playback i don't see it as much of an issue.

The space which has been created certainly can be put to good and creative use I'm sure and that will come.

that I don't get, the main reason for wanting a large phone is for video, and it just doesn't use the display for that. However as I said if you are going to have on screen keys then this is a much better solution than 16:9 but would rather just have hardware keys.

Traditional large screen handsets are too wide for me meaning I can't use them in one hand typically. This set up works a lot better for me personally, each to their own :)

not for everyone! I like a large screen as I have big hands and dont enjoy squinting when reading emails / web pages etc.
for watching videos on the go i use a tablet which has a 10" screen

I think 18:9 is just wrong for how I use a phone. For me, ease of web browsing in portrait is the most important and 18:9 web pages don't give anywhere enough width.

Different things for different folks tho and one size will won't suit all
