How many CPUs did they have to go through in order to get these hand-picked 20? 100? 10000?

They would have a good idea from where the silicon is in wafer, and how new the mask was.

After that the CPU's are automaticly tested after they are packaged.
the process is far more simple then one man physicaly testing from just random batches, although it is possible they speed bin the 'cherries' post production too.

if they're this good............why cant we have them too...oh yea' i forgot....2000 quid

The TWKR isn't that much faster, if at all, than a bog standard chip from the same run.
Where they are better is when extremely overclocked at sub zero temperatures.

This leaves it as a cherry chip for overclocking competitions and 'ultimate 3dmark' scores under liquid N/He.
For standard overclocks, using air or water, you aren't missing a great deal.

Given that OcUK have been graced with one they have a duty to put it under some extreme cooling and give us a write up and benchies. :P

I look forward to the benches.

yea we all do.... because if it's stable at 4.0.... then it'll be perfect for me..even 3.8

after all, i very much doubt we'll see another ``Crysis`` disaster again, because Crysis 2 has an improved engine and reworked coding.

sorry i mean the ``Crysis`` pc game...the infamous shooter that no rig can play with all settings maxed out, well; cant play very well

I know what it is, but it has nothing to do with this thread tbh.

It's also not a CPU you will be able to purchase (unless very rich and charitable), it's a super hand picked technical demonstration CPU.

There are plenty of CPUs that will do 4Ghz stable if that's what you want.

ok.... let's wait and see what happens over the next few weeks

Yeah. SS would be single stage phase cooling. Which, to be honest, I remain thoroughly confused by.

edit: Far too slow, serves me right for having to google how to spell refrigerant and then failing to explain how it works anyway :)

Regardless its still allot of money for what it is.

Buying stuff with the Proceeds going to charity does not mean must cost more.

The price is because of extreme rarity & its an auction. If is was a regular CPU then it would get bids no different to others, it being for charity would have very little effect.

How many people would buy a phenom-II 965 £355 because it had for charity in the description from the same CPU at £170 which was not for charity.

The phenom-II 965 £355 would sell regardless of where the money was going if it was rare.

So im just saying the charity part is irrelevant to the bid.

That's why AMD donated it because it will fetch allot of money & not a standard CPU.
