All I am going to say is -
Remember the FX 5 series.... you know you do ;)

I used to own a FX5600 Ultra. It was my 1st Nvidia card & I liked it until I bought Doom 3 - it reduced the card to a gibbering wreck :( so I upgraded to a 6600GT, that was a good card. I just hope whatever Nvidia release will bring back those days & reduce games like crysis to a gibbering wreck! :D

Its quite obvious that ATI are NOT cutting their prices, but they may raise the 5850 by $15, and the 5870 by $20 :)
The funny thing about it is that even if they raised their 5XXX prices 5-10%, it would still offer better bang for buck than Fermi (according to initial benchmarks).

ATI does not make such small changes to their cards' pricing, it's retailers who do. They could use this tool to fill in the gaps in pricing of their graphics offered or make some cards more competitive to others.

I suppose that the best bang for buck options right now are the 5770, 5850 and 5970 at their price points.

I would rather get a 5850 than a 5870, or a 5970 than two 5850s / 5870s.
