182 cup

Make sure the dephaser has been done, by a specialist not a back street garage. The timing can get messed up and it looses power and value if you come to sell it on. Don't just go by the miles covered, they're supposed to be done every 5 year too and it's a £500+ job to get done so devalues the car a lot if it's not been done, usually more than the £500 it needs to be done.

Great cars though, handle well too
 
Thanks Si. Yeah I meant the 197 ones. All the 2.0 litre ones for sale are all listed as that. Not seen any 172's.

This is where I'm getting confused. The one I linked to earlier in thread is listed as a VVT Renault Sport Cup running 197bhp but doesn't have Recaro's, sports exhaust or sports steering wheel that others have. Could be dealer hasn't got a clue what spec it is.

I just want to make sure I'm getting a proper Clio sport and not one made to look like one if I bought one.

I joined the 182 club a few months ago buying a 182 Trophy with ~55k on it off a friend.

I paid £778.80 for a cam belt kit, aux. belt, water pump, dephaser and a replacement alternator to be done. So if you need the dephaser doing you might as well get the cam belt done at the same given the negligible difference. It was done by a mechanic who sets up race engines for Clio Cup cars.. pretty confident he knows his stuff :p.
 
Just to wake up this thread. What sort of mpg do people get for general commuting and nipping about ? Realistically
I forgot all about the idea but it's been rekindled recently.
 
My 182 reports 33.6 mpg as a long term average. Don't know how accurate that is but it never really seems to change. I suspect on long motorway runs you'd get significantly more than that.

On a run - 37-40 mpg avg
Commuting - A roads, town centres etc - 30mpg avg

I get 270 to 320 miles from a full tank to the light coming on (normally closer to 270-280 to be honest), depending on how i drive and whether I need to do a longer distance run. Currently it cost approx £50 to fill from the light coming on using tesco 99. Which is approximately 30-32 mpg.


My old 182 which was just remapped, with stainless cat back and panel filter seemed to be a little better, but not massively. I did once manage 400 miles to a tank though.

If you want a clio, there are always plenty of good ones knocking about on the cliosport forum and facebook page to choose from. Prices seem to vary quite a bit though.
 
I posted earlier I had a Fiesta ST again at the start of the year (having had one before).

I soon sold it and after another car or two this year I am in an EP3 Type R now.

It has everything the Fiesta was missing in terms of just enough ride comfort and refinement. Look for a standard one :) I've just had mine lowered so kind of ruined it but they're not flakey and unreliable like the Frenchies. I'd have a Fiesta over a Clio just for less head aches really.
 
I've had my 182 for 9 years and its not been all that flaky or unreliable. What it has been is a huge amount of fun, hence why I still have it :)
 
I sold my 172 Cup to some idiot on here, what a mug he was (Gilly, I'm pointing at you!), one careful owner!......

I still miss it. Wish I'd never sold it. Gilly conned me out of it! The first pair of front tyres lasted 3000 miles....
 
I really like my 200 FF.

I've got coil overs on my other car so the ride isn't harsh to me, the handling and Brembos make it incredibly chuckable and the Recaros are great seats.

On the other hand it's got enough toys to make it a decentish all rounder, 180 miles to my folks in 6th with cruise control and a half decent stereo isn't too bad a trip.
 
I got a 172 cup and it's one of the best hot hatches I've ever owned. Find a good one and you will grin ear to ear!

Just to keep you informed, it never had a service that didn't need all four disks and pads changing :eek:

In 4 years of 182 ownership it was the most reliable car I've ever owned.

And the easiest to work on, did most of the servicing myself. Apart from a ball joint, that was a nightmare to remove, and the belts.

In 4 years, I replaced 2 rear shocks, brakes, injector, servicing (incl water pump + belts). My old man, mechanic of 30+ years said if I bought one, he wouldn't touch it for me as it'll always be broke. He never had to, but he was always fixing the damn Vauxhall before which he had a strange love for.

My baby Mitsubishi 4x4 is a hell of a lot more trouble than it ever was.

I'm still quite upset about letting it go, I used to drive from Cornwall to Edinburgh twice a year in it with the bike on the roof and well apart from being uncomfy (well not as comfy as something designed for that) it was great. Would avg high 30s.

I still think it's the perfect budget hot hatch.
