Next up, a new case. It shouldn't be getting that hot. My 990x temps were in the low 80x max using the Phanteks.

Ok, I will use 1.38v @ 4.5 Ghz with HT off.
Its running cooler than my I7 920 did at 1.38v and 4.2 Ghz.
Why HT off? Surely the whole point of the 980 is for the extra cores and threads.
still not ideal
i wouldnt run above 1.4v tbh
my x5680 was the best clocking hex core 1366 cpu i had and that did 5ghz at 1.41v.
you need serious cooling for that and my load temps were hitting 80 which is the max i would consider for a 32nm hex.
a conservative 4.4 is the kind of thing you want to aim for using around 1.35v or less if you can.
unless you have a big waterloop then you can go a bit more mental
The HT doesnt do anything but increase temperatures. I'd rather achieve a higher clock speed with it off.
The extra cores are being used in several games I play, but the only thing I have that uses hyperthreading in Civ V, and even then it makes less difference than a higher clock speed.
My point with the new CPU was for the higher clock speed, and extra performance in a few games that can use all 6 cores.
At 1.38v and 4.55 Ghz without HT, the chip maxes out at 83 degrees after 15 minutes of Linx. I dont want it any hotter than that now.
