.

Going to Japan next month. Got a Swiss gf that's into bikes, as is her family and will get to ride Swiss mountain roads. And excitement of learning to ride, you've come to gloat right? :D

I did my DAS before Christmas and I'm loving bikes more and more, especially now that the weather is decent!

You'll soon wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Life is pretty amazing right now I must say! I'll be moving to Switzerland within the year too.

We've already picked out the Suzuki V-Strom (pending test rides) for our alpine and European adventures together.

i could have recommended a good training school if your not far from Dudley, but now its all booked up ect good luck:D

It's only the CBT that's booked. I'm open to (and very grateful for) any suggestions!

Looks really easy for me to get to their Tipton centre too. Thanks for that, I'll look into using them for the training, Mod 1 and Mod 2.

I lose my £20 deposit if I change my CBT now.

Got back from Japan on Monday and passed my theory this morning. That was an interesting test with jet lag but I scored 96% overall.

Time to get permission from work and book the direct access course!

Yeah, CBT and theory done now.

Booked the MOD1 training and test on one week, and the MOD2 training and test the following week.

I need to buy the gear now, any recommendations on where to start looking? Around the South Wales or Birmingham areas would be ideal. I need at least the boots and gloves for my test, but I'd feel more comfortable with the full equipment with known history (i.e. new helmet).

Any recommendations on boots and gloves to get from there? My lessons and MOD1 test aren't until the first week of June so I'm not in a big rush.

I have shovel hands! I can reach both ctrl keys with one hand on a full sized keyboard, so it might be best to buy something I can try on.

I got a £100 IXS helmet with pin lock, anti-fog insert, air vents, flip down sun visor and an air pump system. It was the best fit out of the tens of helmets I tried at the store and seemed to be a lot of helmet for the money.

The chaps at J&S were really helpful, which I really appreciated as I had no idea what to go for.

Psshh, lazy, that's not the biker spirit, you should have walked in full kit & helmet :p

I have much to learn!

I can't wait to explore Switzerland and the surrounding territories with the gf, and it was all her idea!

Looking at getting a Suziki V-Strom DL650 to take those long weekend trips on. Not the most exciting bike but it's perfect for what we want.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that.

I did say to the guy in the shop that I was clueless and he seemed really helpful. He mentioned a lot about the safety of my options, comfort, different gear for different riding styles, seasons etc but never the visibility.

I'd better pick up a fluorescent vest too.

I think the white strips on the jacket are probably reflective in the night. Give it a go, turn the lights off and put a torch on :p

The lines on the chest, arms and back do reflect light.

looks ok to me,you can be dressed up in dayglo pink and still not be seen nowadays

thought you would have struck a power ranger pose though:(:p

It's morphing time! A missed opportunity indeed!

I was completely bricking it.

We were late to the test as the other learner got separated from our group on the way to the test centre which didn't help my nerves!

Edit: Also today was my first time riding in the rain... that's certainly an eye opener!

Edit 2: the pinlock was a life saver, the chap I was with had so much hassle with his visor misting up while I had no issues, even with my glasses.

When have you got it booked for?

Sorry but I'm not telling anyone to avoid putting pressure on myself. It's a little while off though as I've got a bit of time in Switzerland coming up.

I've already noticed the group mentality of bikers in many areas (police bikers giving the nod, instructors at the test centre being keen to help out, showroom staff making you tea and chatting about bikes they don't even sell), and it's pretty awesome.
