Planning 10 days for the trip with probably 6/7 days in the UK. We're looking for a good mix of nice roads, sights and attractions. I'm thinking of a day at Alton Towers for example as most of them would enjoy it and the roads around there aren't bad. They also want to visit Loch Ness and a whiskey brewery (is that what they're called?) or two.
They're all Swiss so not easy to impress with roads, but I want to show them that we hold our own here. The idea of riding through forests is particularly different for them as they're used to lakes and mountains.
When you say forests, do you mean wooded areas, or proper big forests? Plenty of forest areas in Scotland, in the middle of nowhere and as for tight, twisty woody roads, should be easy to find as well.
That's not very long to cover the UK including Scotland. Personally I'd probably get the ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle (or Zeebrugge to Hull) then go up to Inverness / Loch Ness and work your way back down South via the West coast all the way, getting the Tunnel back into France.
Normally I'd say do a run on the A82 to Fort William taking in Rannoch and Bridge of Orchy but I'm not sure that would impress someone used to the Swiss scenery :S
Other than forest areas you'd probably have to head pretty far up to the runs along the North West coast (or possibly Skye) to maybe take in some scenery they wouldn't be used to (though there are plenty of parts of Scotland I don't know of heh).
You'd miss out on the Scottish highlands, one of the main reasons to go to Scotland! I reckon the west coast of Scotland would be a good idea, with them living in a landlocked country I can't imagine they see many beaches, let alone ones like you get up there.
Would take some serious planning to make the most of each day but done right it could be a superb trip.
Arranging to meet locals would be the best way of doing those "special" roads/routes.
Highlands, Then come down the West coast taking in a few of those lovely Coves then down to/through Wales & into Derbyshire, Snake pass. Could also head for a BSB meet/race weekend for a days rest.
