.

Been there done it! Stupidly complicated in short if its only a visiting visa you should be OK as she'll have no claim on benefits/NHS.

All you need to do is prove you are more than capable of looking after her and that her staying is going to make you claim from the state!

I would just give them as much info as you have can't see it being a problem assuming you can support yourself and her.

This is coming from someone who has gone through the entire process with my Taiwanese wife Fiancé visa / Marriage visa /indefinite stay of leave visa and finally English passport:)

Its not easy but just be honest and give as much info as you can. any questions ask away

A different type of Visa but when my wife moved over here from the US, I had to prove that I earned enough to support her if she wasn't employed. IIRC the amount was equivalent to what one would get on benefits (£13k rings a bell?).

It really wasn't that strict. If you tick all the boxes it'll be fine.

You think the UK system is strict?! Try the U.S.!

It's a while since we went through the process so I apologise for the vague reply but I'd be happy to attempt to answer any specific questions you have.

I wasn't joking, it sounds like he's getting a mail order bride. Obviously that hits home with your story, hence right on the defence.

If that is directed at me then you couldn't be more wrong :p

Do a search on these forums young grass hopper.

We've been happily married for 4 years and we met in Australia a few years before that.

Hey guys,

Got a girl coming to stay with me from Ukraine.

Why didn't you say wife in the first post, do you not live together or something, seems an odd way to go about things if your married and not toghether:confused:

Good stuff! No offence meant, so I hope none was taken. Fingers crossed she's like the nice Ukrainians I met... not like the dodgy, unlicensed taxi driver who tried to rip me off when I was there :p.

You know you're quoting two different people, right?

Bugger, wtf am i doing lol, lack of sleep today i guess :o

UK visa system is only strict if you are British.

If you are British to bring your foreign non EU wife over you need to earn a minimum £18600 a year, have a housing report that you are not overcrowded, pay £1000 for a visa (often you will fail first time for the smallest of reasons, such as my wife had business level English which is much higher than their public level they wanted, oh you must pay for that too!)

If you are Romanian/Bulgarian/Polish ect you can bring your foreign non EU to Britain for FREE! None of the above applys to you.

Ukraine is classed as EU though, right? And all of that is crazy, why is it free for foreign nationals and not us..?

Ukraine isn't a part of EU... yet. So you will have to empty your wallet.

I think most British people enjoy being humiliated, complexes over our history. I know 3 cases, one is a Romanian girl that speaks no English at all bringing her Ukrainian husband over for free. A polish woman bringing her Egyptian husband over for free. An Italian woman bringing over her lesbian Argentine lover for free. Whereas my Russian wife pregnant with my son (a British citizen by birth) gets denied her £1000 visa for having business level English, she's a professional translator and has better grammar than me, as I am dyslexic. Luckly we got the spouse visa the second time (when she was 8 months pregnant) we had to hide her bump so she could board the plane, very stressful.
