Why do you need a dry bag? Is the external sack not good enough?

Can you buy spares?

Then why does it have the annoying external roll top on the external bag too?

Does the internal liner zip into it?

It velcros to the top lip of the roll. You can't attach a zip to it because zips can't be made 100% waterproof so the next best thing is a roll up. I quite like the roll up because you can either roll it all the way down and make the bag compact, or roll it further up and allow for more room.

Roll bags are a tried and tested method of making something water/airtight. The outer material does get wet and the white insides mean you can actually see stuff in there.

I have some cheap karrimor rollbags and they're completely airtight too.

The R30 is basically a US30 roll bag with the rucksack parts, the US bags are 100% waterproof too.

I didn't know the US bags have internal bags too.

My current rucksack is just fully waterproof on its own.

Yeah the US and R30 bags all have the white internal 'liner' - the outside black material gets wet but doesn't let through loads of water, it's just not 100% waterproof. I've never has water sloshing about in them.

Well, that must have been the wettest 50 minutes ever on the bike, textiles couldn't take any more and I got pretty wet in certain places.

The R30 though? bone dry inside :D
