Howdy team,

Anyone able to help advise on which of these drives I should get? I’m looking to repurpose my NAS since the price of my cloud storage has skyrocketed, so I’m looking at a couple of 18TB drives.

I’ve so far got these three:

- Seagate Exos X18
- Toshiba MG Series

Both are similarly priced - or should I target something different? Ideally don’t want to be spending too much, both are around the £260-280 mark.

I recently got stung with the wrong/early 5 year warranty expiry after registration on some 18TB drives. Seagate said i had purchased from a non authorised retailer. It eventually got sorted out but it took 3 months and plenty of emails/telephone calls (not worth the £5 cheaper price). Moral of story at least register drives early to check no problem, so you can return if there are any shenanigans; and if you can check the reseller is on the OEM's list first, all the better.

Would agree go with cheaper they both have 5 year warranty, both are 7200RPM and neither are SMR (AFAIK)

they do this to get out of warranty, had so many occasions where this has ahappened to me and poeple i know. actively avoid seagate drives, because firstly the drives fail quite often and secondly there support is terrible.
