1980s / early 90s kids - what computer did you have?

The first one I can recall was a Dragon 32, anyone else remember those? Think they were actually made in Wales! I remember games like Dragon Trek and Speed Racer written in basic. :D

Next we had an Amstrad CPC464 with built in tape drive - I remember Harrier Attack for this system, bloody game crashed more often than it loaded!

ZX81 + 16k rampack (wobble it and you'd get white out !!!).
ZX Spectrum 48k - The use that thing used to get, loved it.
All hail Sir Clive :)

CPC464 with colour monitor, 64k RAM pack, multiface II plus genius mouse and OCP art studio :)

I had to get rid of it last year, broke my heart! I kept the MF2 as a souvenir.

My first was a VIC20 followed by all sorts.

I'm 99% certain is was this Toshiba 3100E with oranage CGI graphics with the CGI being the important thing as it meant I could play Microproses F19 Stealth Fighter for hours :D

Then I went to uni and bought myself a proper PC, a beige box 486-DX33
My first PC was also a t3100e, 286, 512kb mem, 720kb floppy, and a whopping 20mb hard drive. Yet it still ran full word processing, spreadsheet and DB apps, plus Autoroute and F19.

Like you my next was a beige boxed 486DX33.

My first few computers

Sinclair zx81
Sinclair spectrum 48k
Atari 800xl
Commodore 64
Commodore Amiga a500

I then moved on to consoles for a few years.

Sinclair ZX spectrum 48k
Amstrad cpc464 (for 2 weeks)
Commodore 64
Atari 520st
Atari 1040st
Amiga a500
PC - 386sx25

Our first proper computer was the Atari 800XL but I think we only ever used the cartidge slot once for Boulder Dash, all the rest of the games were on tape (Some of my favourites - BMX Simulator, Thrust, Who Dares Wins, Action Biker featuring Clumsy Colin, Ninja, Goonies). The play button on the official tape deck kept breaking though which got annoying very quickly. Wasn't the coolest comp to have at school but still had some fantastic games. A friend of mine at the time had the SAM Coupe but the only games he seemed to have on it were Spectrum games.

After a brief foray into the console world with a Sega Master System Plus my dad bought us an Amiga 500 and eventually got the official monitor, 512KB RAM upgrade and external floppy later on. Still have the Amiga and all bits/games in the loft but can't seem to track down my old joysticks (ZipStick and a Competition Pro, ZipStick was great for SWOS but my Brother preferred the Comp Pro).

After the Amiga tends to go past the scope of the post so not worth mentioning. BTW you can download/watch all the Bad Influence episodes at http://www.bad-influence.co.uk/ as Yorkshire TV (the rights holder) gave them permission.

did not have anything :( used to go fishing played basketball all day and computers were something that was "wow" back then.. i lived in lithuania till 14 years so thats quite a different level of live back in the late 90's

Clearly not early-90s enough. This is the class of device you need to teach people about programming though, not those super powerful raspi things ;)

Actually I had a phone call from my mum the other day, the call went something like this

`Steve, what do you want to do with all the computer stuff in the loft becuase we have been clearing out the loft and could do with getting rid of it`.

I was like I will come and collect it at some point please dont throw it away.

She goes on to tell me I have about 3000 blue floppy disks that are in boxes that are currently taking up most of the gable end of the house, it was then that I remmeber I purchased an old public domain library that came with the disks.

I got my mum to send me a list of the stuff she has unearthed from the loft.

2 spectrum 48k rubber keyones
1 spectrum 48k+ with the plastic keys
2 interface ones and 4 microdrives with 2 boxes of cartridges.
2 multiface ones and various other addons
a big stero boxes full of game tapes.
Amiga A500
Amiga A600
Amiga A1200
Amiga A2000

A few other boxes of various addons and stuff and a few boxes of disks and empty boxes of games ( I am assuming all the game disks are in the disk boxes)

I was actually wondering what something like the above is worth now. It will all be in fairly good condition and I know it all worked when I used it. I even think one or two of the spectrums are still in the boxes having never even been used. It would mean a trip down to plymouth to collect it all and it would take some sorting out but if anyone know anywhere I could perhaps sell some or all of it?

ebay is your best bet, tell me if you put any of it up, I've been looking for an unused ZX Spectrum 48k for ages.

Which one to start with ;)
Well good job I didnt get an Oracle and went for a Sinclair Spectrum (16k upgraded to 48k), also had an Atari 400 that I bought off one of the kids at school, I still have both the speccy and the 400, then onto an atari 600xe, 512ST, a 1024STFM (you get the drift ;))

had a dragon32, got a manual with it to program a racing game, took forever to type lol, had a Vic 20
C64 was the first proper gaming machine
mate got an amiga 500, loved that but could never afford one :(
