Not sure if this is in the right forum or not but it does belong with webspace/websites i suppose!

Bought a domain name and webspace with 1and1 a while ago, realised they were far too expensive for what i needed so i cancelled the webspace package.
Now i obviously want to change which hosting the domain name is linked to, as the 1and1 was cancelled. But when i try to login with the domain name it says it doesnt exist on their records.
Even when i email them they tell me i have to have a hosting package with them so that i can login to change what the hosting of the domain is.
Surely if i have bought the domain it is mine and i can change the hosting to whatever i want whenever i need to, and the fact i cancelled a hosting package linked with the domain has nothing to do with it ?

Just wondered if anyone has any ideas before i probably waste money phoning them up!

domain and webspace are independent. So I don't see why you can't dump the hosting and just use the domain name.

edit: they probably just want your cash

This is 1and1's geographic number which should be a lot cheaper than their normal one.

When I phoned up AppleCare I did a lookup on www.saynoto0870.com to get a number that wouldn't cost me a fortune. I ended up with their Regent Street store number which cost me a lot less considering I was talking to them for about 90 minutes.
