Just finsihed my first build, I did have 4 x 1gb ram installed but i ran into problems when trying to install games from dvd.

If I take the other 3 sticks of ram out, and just leave the 1 x 1gb stick in, it installs my games no problem, if I put any more in, even just 1 more gb in, my install problems return instantly.

Im pretty sure its the timings in bois that need adjusted but im not too sure how to do it.

I upped the voltages from 1.8 (auto) to 2.1 which is printed on the stick. This didnt solve the problem. Infact it made it a little worse, the game install fails quicker. But with 1 stick of ram its fine

The numbers on the sticks read: 4-4-4 @ 2.1 volts.

the memory is: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-072-OC

My system is:

Asus p5qe
Ati 4870
E8400 duo
4x1gb ram OCZ
Vista 64 bit
Samsung f1 500gb hdd
Sony DRU 190a
Antec 900

If anyone could tell me what I need to change in the bois and how to do it that would be great :)

p.s I have ran memtest86 with no errors

OK 1st raise the NB (Chipset) voltage by 0.1v and if Memory is normally 2.1v make it 2.2v.

And you need SP1 for Vista to run 4GB without issues, many peeps have to install Vista with 2Gb then install SP1 and then add other other 2GB. (personally I ain't had issues either way).

NB voltage is 1.10 and increases in 0.02 so I'll put it to 1.12 yeah?

I also had to change the ram timings from the standard 5-5-5-15 to 4-4-4-12

will try install game now and will post back in 5 mins

BTW, Just noticed its OCZ Memory.

Asus and OCZ can give you major issues, read my posts on it using SEARCH and make your own decision but I blame OCZ.

Many peeps on XS Forums will not even use OCZ never mind on a Asus Mobo.

I advise you RMA them and get some Corsair, ideally a 2x2GB kit but 4x1GB will work.

Yeah it failed again.

Ok i'll have a read up

Im surprised they dont go together tbh....I built the pc from a recomended build list on another forum

Thanks anyways

Install ran fine with 2 x 1gb at 4-4-4-12, nb voltage standard 1.10 and ram voltage at 2.1 as it says on stick

4 x 1gb just wont work tho :S

Gunna try this out over the weekend, then go for the 4gb corsair you linked if i have problems

OCZ + Asus = Not very good

Using 2x2gb OCZ gold edition ram with my P5E and the first set died in the first few weeks, the next set came which was fine for a month but my games started stuttering and freezing and eventually BSOD'd withing 2 mins of gameplay.

Now using my Geil ULL and my comp has been fine for 2 months without any crashes.

Running 4 modules requires a lot of tweaking, and the chances are you won't be able to run them at the full rated clock speed on most systems. :(

ok I've now orderd the 2 x 2gb corsair set mentioned earlier in the post. thanks for the warnings

left wow downloading a 2gb patch this morning so will be interested to see if it plays ok when I get home tonight.

thanks again

I'm currently experiencing the same problem as this with my 2x2gb OCZ memory and P5QE mobo. 5 mins into gaming and the sytem freezes, also when just browsing files or folders.

Might have to try some new RAM

After some reading i found that my problem might be the BIOS. I have since then updated my BIOS to the latest version and have just played half an hour on crysis uninterrupted which is fab as before i only got 1-5 mins.
