Hey :)

A friend has asked me to spec him a 1k pc for him.

He doesn't need :

OS
Monitor
Keyboard
Mouse

He DOES need:

CPU - He is into animation so would an i7 be a better option over an i5 with the hyper threading?
MOBO - Depends on the CPU I guess
RAM - 16 gig - as he will be using it for animation work and game design work? Would having 16gig impair an overclocked CPU? Would 4 x 4gig of quad channel be better than 2 x 8gig?
PSU - I'm thinking a 750 would be suffice?
GPU - The CUDA cores would be better so Nvidia???? or not???? Would a 3 gig card be better to play on an HD monitor? Or would a 2gig 670 be the way forward?
COOLER - to keep any cpu decently cooled
CASE - Doesn't need to be beautiful but DOES need to be decent at cooling as he wants the PC to be quiet
OS HD - Would an SSD be beneficial if he is doing detailed animation work on the PC?
STORAGE - 1TB
DVD - Bog standard one would suffice

I dunno if I've missed anything....any ideas?

Looks good :)

I've still got a question about the i7 v the i5 cpu.

Given it is going to be used as a pc for university work in the gaming industry would the i7 with hyperthreading be beneficial?

Quick question, If I went and got him 2 x 4gig would I be able to stick another 2x4gig in later on to make the 16gig or would that affect any overclock on the CPU?
