the drivers with 8800 are ok now, used to be rubbish.

i'd change the spec to get:

quad q6600 pro (energy efficient)
2 * 2gb kit of cellshock ddr2 pc6400

you dont want ram slower than 800, this will use all 4 slots on the motherboard though. i'd also change the board to gigabyte ds4 p35, better cooling on it and change the cooler to thermalright ultra 120 extreme.

then it will be a nice spec.

to get the extra money needed dont get the OC version of the 8800gtx, you will save quite a bit of ££ with that. also get the antec p182 case instead.

Any particular reason for this? If you run the Ram (PC5300) at stock speeds (333mhz) you will get 3ghz from the CPU (it has a 9x multiplier) which is a fairly decent overclock, PC6400 might allow you to go further but not necessarily if the CPU itself or the cooling can't cope. :)

And the OC 8800GTX is simply because the difference between it and the non OC model is £20 or less so I figured it would be worth it.

think he was saying get the OCUk version.

yep, there is no difference in speeds between branded nvidia cards, only different fans, heatsinks etc, always go with the cheapest, OC version is only slightly quick than the ocuk standard.

you can get 1000mhz with the cellshock ram (which 6*500 = 3ghz) run 1:1 and chipset will be running nice and quick aswell.

spose 6400 would give more oc'in potential with the next gen penryns (considering u've speced a P35 board)

i noticed that the giabyte mobo only has 1 pci express slot, is it worth paying a little more for a motherboard with 2 or is 1 big card sufficient. Just thinking about the future, i dont want to have to get another motherboard in the near future that can cater for 2 cards if games future games require 2 cards.

1 GTX should be enougth for a fair old while, your better off replacing the graphics card with newer models than running SLI anyway.

i basically want to be able to play games like quake wars and world in conflict on totally max settings without any problems whatsoever. So do you think 1 8800GTX would be sufficient?

I think it will be fine :)

also 1 other thing, i plan on overclocking the cpu a little bit, whats a safe overclock for that kind of chip?

You'll see 3+ with ease.

hmm im still a bit concerned with this motherboard, i know for now that i dont need 2 graphics cards and that SLi is still unstable but in the future things will surely change and i dont want to have to buy a new motherboard. Is there a board that anyone could recomend that would accomodate another pci-e slot?

cheers

Seriously ignore SLI.

In the future when you want to add another card your GTX will be totallt old hat.
