£1k TV Question

Not to de-rail the thread too much it seems like OP has made his mind up.

If you have the same rough budget and size desire, purely for movies and TV watching - no gaming.

LG 55BX? Whenever I've seen OLED in shops (pre-COVID) I was wow'd...

derail away :)
while my mind may seem to be made up i am always open to more suggestions right up until i click the buy button. to be honest the more i look at the oleds the more i want one lol but always figured (apart from the family wrekcing it) that at the 1k price end there'd be a lot of compromises to keep the price in that region. that said. the only negative i can see to the BX is that it doesn't get very bright so would struggle somewhat in a bright room - which ours is unfortunately.

BX is the same as C9. The brightness is a bit local areas (HDR) Not really relevant for the full screen which is a much lower ‘nits’

Would be interesting why you think BX isn’t so bright ? If you are basing that on peak nits that’s why I was referring too

i gotta be honest, i didn't follow a lot of what you've just posted :p i'll have to read the rtings review a bit better see if i can suss it all out

Oled's essentially have infinite contrast ratio due to the pure blacks.

So they don't need to get as bright to offer what appears to be a as bright a picture.

It can be misleading based on their LCD equivalents.

Also with a bright room so long as sunlight isn't hitting the screen directly which you should always be looking to avoid you should be fine however I'm not sure if oled's use a glass panel like plasma used to which essentially turned them into mirrors.

Unfortunately all TV's have reflection issues but glass panels are the worst for it. That's the main thing I'd be checking for if your worried about sunlight.

Oled burn in isn't an issue if you use varied content. Problem is that a lot do tend to watch channels with a logo on them for long periods of time. It's okay if you switch channels regularly and watch alternative regularly but I know people who literally watch sky sports all day and that will cause issues.

Because it doesn't achieve the same peak or sustained brightness numbers as the C series screens or even the older B9 screen.

It does matter, it means it cant do HDR properly and according to Rtings its not great for SDR either. Looks like the B series has stopped being a bargain and is now noticeably worse than the C series in real world content.

'The LG BX has just okay peak brightness. It's significantly less bright than the LG B9 OLED and doesn't get bright enough to combat glare in most rooms. It has an aggressive 'Automatic Brightness Limiter' (ABL) that dims the screen when large areas are bright, as seen in the dip in brightness in the 100% sustained window test.'

Why do I visit these over budget threads. What started as an £800 max budget just went to £1100

I wouldn't want to game on an OLED but also it's going in our living room we have an office for gaming so it's just never going to be required :)

I'm going to order the BX, just got to work out how to get the best deal :p

Wouldnt want to why though? Is that cause they're generally less bright opposed to say QLED?

Would a TV like this be cheaper in boxing day or January sales? Never bought a TV in these sales so not sure if it's more the TVs people don't want that would see reduction

Where pixels stay the same a lot (such as radars, maps, logos etc) they can burn in to the screen so that they are visible all the time.

man cave or cave cave lol

My living room has no window, it's open plan into the entrance hall, but there is low ceilings so it's either completely bright (close blinds) or dark.
