1st build guidance please!

I just bought a 1000w evga p2 psu and its quiter than a hard drive ( bougt it for 2 780s, 4770k, 12 fans, watercooling ). In my opinion its a mistake a lot of people do, they only cound cpu power usage and gpu power usage and not the smaller things like fans etc.
Fans, water cooling and hdd's in my system will use almost 100w.
Best to use some sort of psu usage calculator.

With what you've both said I think I may go spend a bit more for the OC board then. I'd prefer to spend a bit more now and be happy than feel like I skimped to shave a few pounds off. One thing I wanted to ask is I've heard that Gigabyte have had a few issues with drivers/BIOS recently, hence why I was originally going to go for an Asus. Has this been sorted out?

I went with the Sapphire Tri-x as it seemed like a very good value GPU (giving the performance of the stock cards but doing a great job of lowering their temps and noise) and the best of the 3rd party 290s but I've seen a few posts on here complaining of problems. Do you think it's worth it...or should I defect to the Green Team?:D

Basically all you want to do when you get the board is update the BIOS as sometimes there's no compatibility for certain GPU's, a BIOS update nearly always works though :) Gigabyte boards are really great

Yes, there are loads of R9 290(x) problems but when you get a good one they are good :)

I gotta say, you're really not filling me with confidence:D Hmm...should I roll the dice on the off chance I get an awesome card for great value or just get a 780?

The link below gives a total system draw of 1050W BUT that is with an i7 4770K and 2 x 290X Tri-X GPU's which were also both heavily overclocked.

Seeing as you have an i5 4670K and the non X card I would say you will be fine with 1000W psu.

Well that gives me some peace of mind at least. I probably wont be getting a 2nd card for a while but people say you should prepare for future upgrades.

If I were you I'd go 780 but I'm an Nvidia fanboy, I think the general consensus would be to go 290, but the sheer plug and play of Nvidia just appeals to me, as well as proper stability

Here is a couple of alternatives

I thought in the same way that it was impossible for someone who claimed to be insane to be such, claiming you're a fanboy automatically acknowledges that you have some higher brain functioning ;) If you were to steer me to the Green side of the force which card would you recommend?

This is a pretty awesome 780 and it is on offer at the moment. It is a triple slot card though so a 2 cards would be pretty close together when you decide to go sli. The 500R has 8 expansion slots so you shouldn't have any issues fitting two.
