I want a pretty good all round computer, but I want it to be very good at gaming and graphical processing. I have some things already, nothing major though:

Case: NZXT Phantom Enthusiast Full Tower Case - White
DVD Writer: Super WriteMaster S-ATA 22x DVD Writer LightScribe
Hardrive: not sure of the actual name but its a 500GB Samsung make.
Operating System: Windows 7
Fans: 5

I have my birthday coming up so some of the things I need I can ask for then, but the things I don't get I'm willing to spend up to £100 on each part, apart from the graphics card, which I will pay up to £200 for.
So if anyone could give some input as to what kind of processor, power supply and graphics cards I would be very grateful. :)

Hi and welcome
Intel release their new technology called SandyBridge in a few days, so for CPU/mobo/RAM wait til thats out before making any certain decisions
gfx card wise Id say look at an ATi 6950, cant be beaten for the money (theyre around £200)
PSU wise the Antec Truepower New 650W modular is great value and v good (circa £70)

well with a budget of £100/component, you could save in areas and spend more in others

something like PSU, the graphics card and a sandy bridge motherboard and processor should do you very nicely

+1 to a HD6950 - you can flash them to HD6970s!

£100 is massive overkill on a PSU, I'd look to spending around £65 on that, and spread the rest out over other parts - or but some games to put the new PC to the test :p

with processor, i think you should wait for the new sandy bridge range which come out in 5 days which will offer up a good price/performance ratio

+1

If its still not the best bet, there -might- be some price drops on current gen stuff.

I know that Intel is faster than AMD, I have seen loads of benchmarks on them both but would I get better value for money with AMD, and would there be any noticeable differences between the two in real world performance.

I dont want to spend more for a system that is going to run a bench 2 seconds quicker than one that is £50 cheaper.

Thanks for all the replies so far, been very useful.

Few of the things are bit over a ton, a few under

XFX ATI Radeon 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £226.72
Asus M4A89TD PRO AMD 890FX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £127.64
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £113.99
Antec TruePower New Modular 650W Power Supply £73.52
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz VALUE PLUS Dual Channel (GVP34GB1600C9DC) £41.99
Titan Fenrir Evo CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1156/LGA1366/AMD K8/AM2/AM2+/AM3) £32.66

no lol, i was away for a bit, and how would it compare with a G.Skill RipJaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit [F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM]. because that was my initial choice.

Did you click the link?

Its been a long time and it is way overdue, but we are once again an official partner with GeIL and as many of you will remember GeIL not only had some of the best pricing on offer but the reliability of their memory was untouchable.
