Whatup party people......

17 in a few months and I'm looking for something that will be cheapish to buy & insure but that also looks a little bit different than you're normal 1st car hatchback type stuff... I'm probably pretty difficult to please with cars (aesthetically speaking) as I think most of them look boring/the same. I really love the look of the Chevvy Camaro late 60-early 80s style. Especially the 1977 one from Transformers :p

I haven't been able to find any in the UK yet, but don't know what are the best sites to look on D:

So yeah, any basic advice would be cool - am I being unrealistic dreaming about camaro style oldskool cruising rides and I should just go get a normal 1st car OR can you guys advise me on something a little more funky and different :D

You're being quite unrealistic mate, hate to say it!

Not gonna find one for any decent price over here, and spares might be a serious problem.

Insurance will be mental as well, sorry mate.

Got a classic mini myself as I've always loved them and it was cheap on insurance, fun too :)

ah well, best to know I guess!

What sites are good for looking at cars, I suppose going 2nd hand would be a decent option. I've been on autotrader, are there any similar other ones?

Sorry to have to break it to you but your dreams are going to have to be put on hold while you are forced to drive a horrible, low-power motor while you build up ncb.

I had a H reg Mazda 626 as my first car. 2.0 petrol. Even though it was old and struggled to reach 80, insurance was around £1k a year, third party in my mom's name, and me as a named driver. Also, repairs cost me a lot 2 years on.

As everyone else says really, get a decent small engined hatchback.

Thanks for the sensible advice guys. Guess I kind of suspected it myself just needed someone else to tell me you know. :p

You'd have to be nuts to spend £5k on a fiesta. Go older and more up market.

£4k Mondeo will cost £4k to run for a year?

I can understand if it's a £400 Clio or £225 Rover but most cheap hatches that are in a reasonable condition shouldn't cost BMW mondey to run?

Now you see i paid around £400 for my clio and nothing has gone wrong with it in the two years it has been in my family bar the handbrake cable needing to be tightened :p

Equally my girlfriend brought a £600 Clio and she had to spend £460 to get it through an MOT. She wrote it off 2 weeks after

What happens if you don't spend the car's value on maintenance and you did budget for it? Yes, you go out and get trollied.

What happens if you need to spend the cars value on maintenance and you didn't budget for it? Yes, you have to sell it for less than it owes you.

Swings and roundabouts, you can either spend hundreds keeping a car on the road or you can spend nothing. As long as you have a bit in the bank to cover an 'unexpected' expense. Loads of people spend all they can afford on a car and then cry because they need to buy a new exhaust.
