I've just OC'd my first C2D PC and it is running at 470x7 =3.90Ghz. This is at stock volts for everything with an E6550, DS3R and 4 GB of Crucial Ballistix PC-6400. It's cooled by an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro and running Orthos the temps are 51c on each core.
I'm well pleased:D
Any comments welcome.

That's pretty impressive stuff. However, before all the other naysayers arrive, I'm going to ask whether or not the computer is stable at that speed?

Having a riotously fast computer is one thing, but if its calculations are wrong then there's not much point in the exercise. You basically have to check that the computer is running correctly as well as quickly.

Prime95
Orthos (or whatever it's called)
Toast (I'm warning you about this program - it's an awesome stability test and it heats up your CPU like nobody's business, but if your system is remotely unstable you will probably wind up having to reinstall Windows... so don't say I didn't warn you! :o )

Or any other program that makes your computer earn its keep.

I'm running Orthos as we speak and it has being going now for 2 hrs 37 min.
I agree about the stability, its no good overclocking to the point where you can't use the PC:)

51C load temps with almost 4ghz is pretty amazing, let alone on average-good air. Are you measuring the temps with coretemp or TAT? If so, damn good chip you have there.

I was tempted to shout BS! :p

Cos near on 4Ghz on not fantastic air + stock volts, and low temps sounded very fishy to me.

But reading again, some quick maths tells me 470*7 is actually 3.29Ghz :D

Nice one Shimmy, saving us from our stupidity.

Still a good clock mind, just not the best C2D ever :)
