guys.

I'm about to O/C my CPU for the first time (tuniq tower is on its way from ocuk and should be with me tomorrow) and have a couple of questions
that i couldnt find answers for (or missed) in the sticky's. Ideally id like to get to 3ghz as i dont want to push things too far as i want to understand what im doing before pushing thins too much, could i ask
that anyone reply'ing could dumb down their answers as much as poss.
thanks in advance

1. When you have the OC thats stable, how do you bring the ram from 1/1 back to the speed it should be running at?
in my bios its automatically set to auto (with timings ive entered as 5-5-5-18 @ 408mhz), if i understand correctly.
when i OC the cpu the memory speed will increase as i increase the FSB, so how do i bring the ram back to 800mhz?

2. Should i switch off speedstep or keep it running?

3. (slightly off topic) Ive ordered the Tuniq tower and understand that it comes with its own thermal paste,
should i use that or Arctic 5 that i already own.

4. After ive installed the Tuniq tower should i leave it to settle a few days before i start to OC?

5. Finally for now, should i use a line of thermal paste along the middle of the four cores or use the cling film over the finger method
of application

system spec in sig

Cheers

Hi mate :)

1) By using memory dividers eg: 3/2, 4/5 etc. Normally in "Advanced" settings in BIOS.

2) Switch speedstep off AND all references to spread spectrum.

3) Use the AS5 mate.

4) Shouldn't need to but you'll see around 5 degrees lower temperatures once the paste has "cured" which takes on average a week if you use the PC for a good few hours every day. (Approx)

5) There will be all sorts of arguments over this point. I, personally, use the cling film approach.

Happy clocking :D

Hi

New to these forums also.

I had the same query reference the memory speed after OC. I don't see memory dividers in the advanced settings of my Asus P5K-E Wifi, is there another setting that I should be looking for on this particular board or a post I can find this info?

Sorry if I'm highjacking the thread, but it's my first time doing OC also.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome :)

The DRAM Frequency options will be the memory dividers. It won't be laid out in the 1:1 method, but it should be easy enough to work out. The lowest setting will be the equivalent of 1:1. IIRC the faster your FSB, the more divider options you get on that board.
