1st Watercooling - TJ07 - spec check

Do it at night with no lights on, become a pro like me :p

I love dremeling, one of my blades shattered on the mobo tray and got lodged in my glasses :D

Great stuff.

Haha, good thing I'm not Irish then. Or I'd have lost an eye :D

Good 'ole South African common sense, and crazyness. Need new Raybans now :(

holy crap im getting a pair of goggles

BAD DAY TODAY

turns out my Asus 4870x2 varies from ATI board reference and wont fit the waterblock. bums. and of course i removed the stock cooler before noticing.

so im gonna sell the asus on MM and get a different make, stock asus tri-cooler shroud is great and all but i want water and silence.

then i was testing my waterloop, few hours in (just before I consider it safe) the pipe comes loose on the outlet of the pump. half a litre later and the desk goes a nice blue colour and so does a loaded extension plug, printer, floor and ipod (hopefully salvaged). bums?

offending connection was 7/16" over dangerden fatboys. :o re-tubed that section of the loop and hardcore clipped and cable tied. so far so good.

on a plus note, the bloodrage looks fantastic and NB waterblock is nifty. and i made a little rest for the pump which has eliminated all vibration. this is going to be a quiet computer. only fans will be the 5 noctua p12s and 2 92mm nexus. the nexus are next to inaudible on standard voltage, very happy with them.

Ouch! But all part of the water cooling learning process. Ignore anyone who tells you not to use cable ties on critical connections. Pressure is greatest at the pump outlet so always add an extra layer of safety by cable tying it. I would do the same to the inlet/outlet on the radiator too.

Wait what?! The Asus isnt reference?!!?

Ah ******? Are you sure? Is it the normal one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-174-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1235
If it's not reference I'm going to ask OCUK to exchange it for the XFX once I get it.

Also what have I always said about tubing on barbs? Always use comp fittings or clamps, no matter what!
Better safe than sorry

Can't see why anyone 'wouldn't' use cable ties or clamps anyway. It's just asking for trouble if not. Hope everything is ok with you system mate. So much for people saying 7/16 over 1/2 barbs (especially fatboys) is completely safe...

When I had to re do my loops, 7/16 tubing would not come off my fatboys, no matter how hard I tried. Lots and lots of pulling, and I still had to use my tube cutters

When you put the tubing on the barb for the first time, was it fresh tubing? Or had it been on other barbs before?

I tested out some 7/16 tubing that had been used on a previous build with my fatboys, but because the tubing had been on 1/2 barbs before, it had been stretched a little, so it wasn't secure enough.

You've restored my faith. Thank you!

Fatboys it is...........(that's sounds so wrong)

I've found that pulling on 7/16" on ½" barbs just makes it grab tighter. Only way off is to cut them. I use heated tubes and KY to get the tubing on and then it's set for life.

i think hefner hit it on the head, this wasnt fresh tubing,
i still have faith in fatboys and 7/16", just gotta not rush the fittings next time

still, on all visibile joins i have cable ties and on pump and rad i have wormdrive clips
starting a proper build log and overclock log in case central :)

I noticed the same thing Hefner, old tubing would just slip onto the barbs so easily, though i just trimmed off the stretched part and put that on which has been fine (had to do it ghetto as didn't have any tubing spare!)

Not had a leak (thumps wooden table...) yet

strength in numbers guys,

all who like screwing fatboys say aye

(build is finally finished WOOP WOOP, looks great, all under water and so quiet. log going up on sunday)
