1TB F1

Hello!

Does anyone know how to set this drives SATA speed to 150??? the reason why i`m asking is because my current motherboard only supports SATA upto 150 and Samsung themselves recommend setting the drives UDMA speed to that of my motherboard supports or I may have problems.

Using their own SAMSUNG Hutil 210 tool that's compatible with this drive from there website, but under Set Max UDMA Mode option, it only has upto UDMA MODE (33/66/100/133, and not an option for setting the drive to 150:confused:

Thank you for helping;)

When people say their drives fail, do you lost all the data on the drives?

I am thinking about buying this hard drive for a HTPC, but don't want to lose all my DVDs if it fails.

Usually the data is not recoverable from sudden failure, if it dies gracefully (increasing number of bad sectors appearing) then you can retrieve most of your files. Sometimes SMART will warn you it's about to go bye-bye.

Are F1s prone to failing or is it the odd one? I am planning on buying one to back up my DVDs, so I a unsure which drive to go for.

Agreed. You'll often find a thread started by someone with a failed drive, and then others will chip in with their stories about the same brand. Before long it's an extensive thread about brandX failed drives which is a bit misleading. On the other hand there was the Seagate 7200.11 thread...

No HD is immune from failure no matter what, so if you want to keep the data have more than one backup.

Would agree with comments made that peeps are much more likely to write when a drive fails on them - Me included , as you can see above.

I was not happy with my Samsung drive but it would be wrong of me to critisize too much as there are many very happy owners out there- I was one for 6mths but never posted to say so !!

For price/performance ratio I doubt they can be beaten.

For me it's the once bitten twice shy situation - I'll no doubt buy another Samsung hard drive in the future but not for a bit........
