1TB Hitachi HDD

I'm sure you would, but they are not worth the money :P

Much slower and more expensive per GB than most other drives.

Yeah, 500Gb disks are the sweet spot right now.

Get 3 of them and RAID5 it for around the same price.

Not when you've got too many of them already :D
My primary PC's data drives consist of 1x 500gb, 3x 400gb & 1x 200gb. Adding at least one 1tb drive is very high on the list of priorities.

(Don't tell me to get a NAS either- Already got a server, & while its only another 640gb, the drives migrate downwards)

Too much storage maybe, but I've got a lot of stuff!

I'd also like to know when the 1tb drives are going to be available for purchase.

Expensive yes, but not slow. They have higher data density than any other drive, 200GB per platter compared to 166GB per platter on the next best drives.
So on paper they should be faster, and from the review I saw a while ago agreed with that, but I can't find the review any more :( sorry.

Edit - Found this review which puts it ahead of the 7200.10s and only fractionaly behind the 150GB and 74GB raptors.
They're also quieter and cooler than most other drives.

or ripped movies/cd's (I suppose technically it's copyright infingement)
also theres work storage, my work projects easily hit in excess of 5GB, soon adds up :)

lol you should phrase it as making electronic copies/backups of movies/cd's you currently own. Then it will not be confused with copyright infringement.

building a £4000 computer only want 2 150GB raptors and 1 other drive for storage (cooling purposes) plus only 3 slots for HDD at the back of the kandalf VA9000SWA dont wanna block the 3 fans at the front

Hmm I still think there is probably a better killing to be made on the 750 disk, there bound to come down a few quid hopefully in the next month, I can then swap out some of my 200 Gig sata Drives and take me storage up to around 5tb :D

I can't understand how people fill such drives. took me 3 years to fill 100gb!!

There is a guy on a audio visual forum I visit who has a disk array loaded with 5 Terabytes of storage. He uses it to load up HD video and then play them back through his projector.

I think it is quite reasonable to go for 1 Terabyte disk now that people can load them to play HD Video.

Damn vicar how much heat u getting off all those HDD! ;) Still no closer to finding out when their coming out  Soon i hope gotta buy a HDD this week, might have to resort to a WD 750GB :(
