Hey,

After realising my budget headphones sound better than the current speaker Im looking at some new ones.

Whats the best route to go?

Amp and a pair of bookshelfs or something like a 2.1 Logitech set?

Also if I got an amp would I need any extra cables or convertors considering pc is headphone jack connections?

was lookin at the z5500's but realised I really dont NEED 5.1

Budget?

If music is your thing then an amp and a pair of bookshelf's will pee all over PC speakers. Or you could buy a pair of active monitors and save mucking about with an amp.

Was looking at around £50 on some of the Logitech 2.1s that have been getting good feedback recently.

If I was to go Amp+bookshelf I wouldnt want to spend a silly amount say 1-150 maybe, so sort of a mid range setup.

Currently using onboard sound on my P5Q-Pro, that will get upgraded eventually, to what Im not really sure, then again if it sounds ok then I wont need to.

Finding myself sitting listening to music a lot more than gaming atm and music on these el cheapos should certainly be easy to beat :p

Nearly clicked order last night but thought I would check in here again and see what TWO brings hehe

Hehe mid-range at £100-150, I put budget at about <£500 for amp and speakers, mid-range up to about 2k, and higher end over that :p

2nd hand is the only way to go for you, ebay is your friend. Mission, eltax, monitor audio (very good) speakers, NAD, arcam (alpha 7,8, delta 290), cambridge audio amps.

Have a listen in a few shops if you can, superfi, sevenoaks, richer sounds if they have a demo room. Then by 2nd hand as even the most budget amp and speakers will set you back over £200, and 2nd hand will get you soo much more sound for your monies.

lol PC stuff it is then :p

Had been looking at goin bookshelfs after eeing a couple of what appear to be semi decent stereo amps at around £100 recently.

C'mon then whats the best PC 2.1s at the moment? Logitech?

Anything comparable/better for around £50?

not sure how true is it but on other forums where ive seen the same question being asked the recommendation is to look at old amps that are cheap such as cambridge audio A1 and pair these with a set of bookshelfs eg mission/tannoy. im pretty sure all this can be done for under £70 and should sound better then the logitech

lol thats the amp I was lookin at, saw a Denon for around the same price as well.

Whats the diff between the A1 v1/v2/v3 ?

Was lookin at one of the A1's then say a £50 pair of speakers, anyone suggest anything specific that would go well with this amp (or a similar priced amp ;) )

Trsut me, even a cheaper 2nd hand A1 and some 2nd hand speakers like B&w 601 or monitor audio B2 will sound better than any pc system out there for music, creative gigaberks, logitech 5500, aego.

Check out the famous auction site, NAD, cambridge audio and my favourite hi-fi bargains, arcam alpha 7/8.

There are some discount hifi shops that you could get a very good set of amp and speakers for £100... I remember my first set up Nad amp and Mission speakers for £200 and that blew me away ( used my portible CD player ).
