Looking for a nice 2.1 speaker system, clear sound with a nice little bit of base, doesnt need to go all that loud, as I have a small room, and my neighbors will complain.
Must be able to connect to pc, and I want to connect my upcoming xbox360 to it as well :)

thanks

Klipsch ProMedia GMX A-2.1 or Acoustic Energy Aego M

Thats the best two imo. swaying towards the klipsch as they have rave reviews.

The Aegos are brilliant :)

(Just got back from my flatmate's room where they're currently on loan :p)

(on loan from me that is)

The best thing about them is they don't need to be loud to sound good - they still sound brilliant at low volumes, but they can go pretty darn loud if you ever need it.

Aego M's here also. Excellent speakers, it's amazing that such clear sound can come from such small speakers. The build quality, i found, is also excellent, very sturdy metal satellites and they come with a whole load of cables.

You can control the level of base with a little switch on the back of the sub. There are three different levels, i normally leave it on the middle one for general use/gaming. I use the highest level for films to give that extra bit of atmosphere.

The bass is very good, it's great for all sorts of music, much better than my previous sound system.

Cheers guys.
one more question. How big is the sub, as I dont really have all that much space to spare. What is the size comparable to?

Sorry for the thread hijack but I'm thinking of getting some of these myself.

Does anyone know what cables come with it? Also will it be ok to plug the sub straight into a mixer with RCA cables (for stereo)?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

aaazza

Klipsch Promedia GMX 2.1s will offer you superb sound by all account. I have used a pair of original Pro-media 2.1s for 4/5 years and they are simply astounding speakers.

The GMX have the advantage of additional inputs, such as phono, which will be ideal for your Xbox (something my Promedias sorely lacked).

If you do consider the GMX speakers, I'd try and listen to a pair first - I've read quite a few reports about audible hissing, although this is always subject to the person listening to them

They come with a lot of fairly high quality looking speaker cable, headphone to rca connectors, come other cable im not sure what its for and I think anohter one too, cant remember now.

You will have no problems connecting a mixer up.

Can the Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 run PC & the 360 without switching inputs and not going through the PC soundcard?

It doesn't look like it can however the other set do look like they can.

Sorry to hijack as well but same problem could be arising here as well, but i dont want to have to keep taking the inputs out of the back each time i want to swap gaming sources.

I've actually got at the moment an old set of Creative Cambridge Audioworks 4.1 (running at 2.1) When i say old, these things must be going on 10 years if not more, they haven't been used for about half that time but dusted them off and was astonished at how good sound quality they actually were!

So i went to the local PC retail store and listened to the Logitech Z-2300 running on a laptop playing high bit rate mp3's and they were actually underwhelming at the very most, in fact i was so put off i'd almost forgot i was still looking for some new speakers (as these are the typical white/beige Pc plastic looking rubbish)

The Aego's only have 1 input, you could maybe use a splitter to connect both at the same time.

They arent plastic looking rubbish, the sat's are made of metal, very heavy and smart looking.

Yeah heard about the weight of the sats, very promising from this end.

Still no good though. Want an ability to input both PC & 360, unless i'll have to buy a soundcard which i was trying to avoid (as the 360 sounds terrible going through on board as am doing right now)

Was looking at the X-Fi series, but so many conflicting problems and stupid versions are putting me off.

I seriously would like to connect my 360 direct to some speakers using the optical option, is there any way of doing that?

Sorry to sound dumb, but what sort of splitter would you need? The input into the Aego M's are Left/Right/Centre RCA's right? A link to an actual product would be appreciated if possible.

Would it degrade quality in any way?

Look for phono stacking leads or Phono - 2 Sockets to 1 Plug Cable

If you put this "Phono - 2 Sockets to 1 Plug Cable" into google one of the top few results will be a large electronics retailer that stock both of the above.
