2.1 Speakers for music?

I've been using a cheap 5.1 setup for a while, which I've regreted ever since buying since it's absolutely rubbish as far as music goes. I've decided to go 2.1 since my room isn't ideal for a 5.1 setup and i reckon 2.1 should be better for music.

My Budgets about £100, so I'm willing to get some good speakers.
Which ones should I get? The emphasis is on good sound for music but I will be gaming with them.

Is the Aego M series the best there is? I checked the slightly more expensive Altec Lansing MX5021 review sand every one was very positive, normally
scoring above 90%. Are these a good choice or are the Aego M's just as good?
I have a Creative X-FI Xtreme Music sound card.

Unfortunately it's not really within my budget to buy a decent HI-FI system for music that will be worth my while, but just out of interest, what sort of price would I have to pay to decent but cheapish Hi-Fi? Might be a project for the future

I hear a lot about the Aego's! but I must say they are a tad ugly I think. I intend on buying the Altecs that Vader has, as they produce good sound and they look the dogs danglees :)

Just remember not to place them by any great drop :) they are very unstable and do fall over regularly when I knock into the desk with the hoover

They do look awesome though :P

Yeah, they do look pretty cool, but I think I prefer the Aego M. I've seen them in person and they're really small!
Why do you wish you had the Aego M exactly? I heard the bass on the Altic Lansing isn't Brilliant.
Anybody know which one is better?

I've always rated the Aego M's, but I decided to dump my Altec Lansing 2100's for Altec Lansing FX 6021's because the latter has Aux and headphone inputs while the Aego's have nothing.

Reviews were stupidly promising, and they arrived today! I underestimated the size of the statalites which tower over my lcd's, so I velcro'd the buggers to the wall until I can find some mounts :D

Loud? These things are deafening. Currently adapting to the loudness and frequencies which I can now hear in comparison to my old setup.

The left statalite is not bent! The wall is! :D

Yeah for the size of the sub on the 5201s ... the bass is not brilliant as you say

I have the Cambridge MegaWorks THX 2.1 250D connected up to an X-Fi Music soundcard and they sound absolutely great. Brilliant speakers for music. Lots of bass and very very loud. I would highly reccomend these speakers. You can get them for around £100.

I'm surprised no one has said this yet, but look into hi-fi separates. With your budget buying new would be tough, but second hand would be absolutely fine and would kick these PC setups in terms of sound quality, especially for music. It's not everyone's cup of tea to buy second hand, but you should really consider it if music is important to you.

If not, the Aego M's are meant to be very good.

Thanks for all your suggestions. After searching the forums for Aego M i decided to go with them as there are a lot of positive remarks about them, and they were the cheaper (My budget was not quite what I thought it was).
There's also a spare Hi-Fi in the house, and I'm going to check that out for a music possibility. I'm going to look into buying a decent Hi-Fi over time, but i like to do a lot of research.
I'll post back here to say what they're like, just for anybody else who searches through the forum for Aego M :)

If there's a spare hi-fi in the house, DON'T buy anything just yet. hook up the hifi to your sound card using a 3.5mm to 2x phono cable (<£5) and see what you think. There is no point in buying a small PC orientated setup if there's a perfectly good spare hi-fi in your house!
