I'm getting a Sony 40V4000 and a Sony BDPS350 blu-ray player. due to the layout of the room and running of wires etc 5.1 7.1 etc surround sounds wont be do-able. So im looking for a good cheap 2.1 system to work with the above bits of kit, the blu-ray player has Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD and DTS HD so a system that would work with these features to give great sound but at a fairly cheap price. i'm not sure what my price range is for this, it depends what sorta price these go for so just let me know whats out there :)

If you're only going with stereo sound, there is no need to Dolby or HD codecs since they are for surround sound.

Just get a decent amp and couple of decent speakers.

im not sure exactly on what i should set my budget at, i have never looked into this before so i dont know what the costs of a good budget system are and the costs of a high end system so im just looking for makes/models and links if appropriate to look into :)

Specing a stereo without a budget is a case of "how long's a piece of string?". You can have a stereo system from £100 to £10,000 and a sub (not really required for a stereo set-up) for £200 upwards.
