2.2 JB Ready

2.1 can't be unlocked, there is no 3G unlock available yet. The 2G iPhone can be unlocked and jailbroken to 2.2.

There is the possibility of an unlock on 2.1 coming however, but 2.2 changed the baseband so has pushed the unlock on that one back a bit.

From what i understand you cant downgrade the firmware to 2.1, so if you buy an iphone with 2.2 you're pretty much screwed on the unlocking front as the baseband has changed and the sim adaptors also no longer work. Is this right?

The SIM adapters should be fine I think, because they don't work by firmware do they?

Also, the chances of getting an iPhone with the 2.2 firmware out of the box would be pretty slim at the moment wouldn't it? I'll be getting one on Thursday so I reckon the chances of stock having 2.2 is pretty much no chance?

thats what im hoping as im in the same boat as you by the sounds of it, but reading up on the sim adaptor it seems that many people who have upgraded to 2.2 are no longer able to use them.

No SIM adaptors no longer work apparently. They may be trying to get around that.

They will come with 2.2 usually 2 weeks after the software release.

Could someone confirm you definitely can't downgrade the firmware or baseband on the iPhone?

You can't, no. Read the devteam site. Until there is a refurbish facility mode avaliable, if you upgrade to 2.2 you will not be able to take advantage of the possible soft unlock the dev team have planned for 2.1.

How do you select Pwnage in Expert Mode option? I cant see it anywhere in Quickpwn. Iam trying to JB my 3G iPhone.

I take it Pwnage tool is for OSX and Quickpwn for Windows?

No there is PwnageTool and Quickpwn for Mac and Quickpwn for Windows.

Quickpwn doesn't have an Expert mode, only PwnageTool.

Why do people still Jailbreak? (I'm actually asking)

I don't know about everyone else and I can't comment on the touch but the main reason I jailbroke my iPhone 3G was so I could change the default email and text tones. Also things like tethering and installing apps like Qik which are not in the app store are also cool.
