My friend has asked me to find her a car, she wants to spend 2-3K, no more. Doesnt care if its petrol, or diesel, couldnt give a dam about alloys etc but must be reasonably economical.

NO LUXO BARGES - she drives a 106 and likes small cars altho i think somthing more 206ish size is better.

suggestions please :)

Budget isn't high enough for a Mk6 Fiesta, the 206 is rubbish, I guess a 106/Saxo are out of the question, the Corsa is rubbish, what does that leave...

Skoda Fabia? Dull to drive but solidly built. Not very stylish though.

Toyota Yaris? Very good cars but wouldn't be the best example for the budget.

I guess a Corsa could be a consideration. You do get a lot for your money as small cars go, the styling is inoffensive and they're fundamentally reliable.

what about mk5 fiesta?

Feel very small and flimsy compared to some of the newer metal I suggested but arguably better to drive.

Am i right in thinking the 1.25 zetec is better than the 1.8D they fitted back then?

Woah yes, by a million miles. The 1.8 N/A Ford diesel engine from that era is nasty.

Not a bad choice (simple, fun to drive, reliable) but they take small to a whole new level. Don't expect to have anyone in the back!

She doesnt really carry people, or lots of stuff, hence happy with 106 size tin box...yuk!

Fabia's looks good, as do yaris's - not a fan of KA's but i'll look as its not for me!

Isnt the clio really, er, light and tin can like?

That'd be because it only has one speed :)

SLOW ;)

 :D :D

Yeah, it will sit happily at 80mph on the motorway,

Clio light and tin like, when she currently has a 106????

Its better than the 206 any day of the week, i am talking about ClioII also has a 4 star safety rating. More sturdy than a Ford Ka thats for sure.

Well i seem to have a massive list here, not just got to narrow it down, and find her one thats in good nick, and mechanically sound!

Tiddlers:
Peugeot 106
Peugeot 206
Toyota Yaris
Renault Clio
Ford Fiesta
Ford Ka
Vauxhall Corsa
Volkswagon Polo
Volkswagon Lupo
Skoda Fabia
Honda Jazz
Citroen Saxo
Citroen C3
Nissan Micra

Slightly biggers
Vauxhall Astra
Ford focus
Volkswagon Golf

I'd like to know where you're getting a Honda Jazz for <£3k! There's none on Autotrader at that price, anywhere in the country.

If she's happy with a Focus-sized car (although they're not really *that* much larger) - get a Focus.

Right, lets get this straight - ITS JUST A LIST - Chill out about the prices, i've not got hours to search about so i was simply listing possibles, then when i get time i will knock them off due to price or other problems.

I'm interested in opinions of the above obiously. Dont really wanna stray into focus terrtory as she doesnt want to go that big.

has every one forgotten micras. There very good little cars, girls love them. Apart from the girly image there hard to fault.

Micra over most other cars in this thread so far, except the Jazz and Yaris maybe but they are a different price range anyway.
