hi all,

i am looking to get a laptop drive to make a small external one, only i noticed there where 2 types ATA-6 and 7, the 7 is faster which got me thinking will an ATA-7 drive work over usb just like an ATA-6 drive does, are there any drawbacks i.e limited to a specific speed

cheers

The USB connection will be the limiting factor in this case so you won't see any difference between the drives.
damn, should i just get the ata-7 drive anyway as if i want to sell it it wouold hold more of its value but its a fujitisu and ive never had or used one so i dont know what they are like, ive got a few options on getting drives, samsung, toshiba or fujitsu all ata-6 except the fujitsu, which would be best out of those 3?

There's sod all point buying a 7200rpm drive for a USB caddy. I reused a Hitachi 7k60 from an old laptop I sold in one and on some machines it demands too much current from the USB ports and won't initialise properly without external power. I've swapped the drive with an WD Scorpio which works flawlessly in the caddy.
