Hi guys,

Know of any SATA 2.5" enclosures that are powered from the USB bus and only use one USB port?

All the ones I can find use 2xUSB ports.

Cheers :)

It's the drive which will determine how many USB ports are needed, not the enclosure. USB can only supply 2.5W per port, most 2.5" HDDs need somewhere between 2 & 3.5W hence the caddies come with a 2 port cable.

I've got an Icybox IB-282U-OT, it's PATA but they do an SATA version, that works from just one USB.

I think it's only USB 1.0 that needs the second connector isn't it? I seem to remember that I had to use the adaptor that came with it for an old USB 1.0 equipped laptop.

So to expand on that, even though the caddie comes with a 2-port cable, depending on the drive and system you may get away with using a regular 1-port cable, but you have the option of using the 2-port one if needed.

You will need to check the spec of the drive you want put in
In my case I use a 100G drive (0.5A) , when I tried a 120G(0.6A) it drew too much current for a single port
