Hi All,

I am trying to recover more data from friends laptop.
It used to have win 98 on it and it went squiffy.

I previouly used Knoppix LIVE DVD to see and access the laptops HD and files after it went squiffy.

Now the HD no longer seems to be recognised or seen.
I have got an adaptor and attached the Laptop HD to one of my PC's that has both windows and linux installed on it.
I can not see the Laptop HD at all but i can hear it spinning up and down when i boot and shutdown.

Is it dead? can i recover anything. I will NOT be doing surgery on the HD to do stuff with platters.

I have got good recovery apps but they have to be able to see the drive first.

get yourself one of those hard drive enclosures for 2.5 drives, plug it into your USB port and if its not picked up then its dead

Does that not have the same effect as attaching the HD directly to my PC via the PATA connection?

Might be worth a go as i would quite like one of those 2.5" external drives anyway. :¬)

Just to let you know.....I got so bogged down in work lately that as it was not my machine I just had to hand it back to get it off my plate.

I hate leaving problems unsolved/resolved but hey, who needs that kinda hastle...

Cheers for all your help.
