if you want silent and cool hdds, you should look at Samsung. They are very cool and quiet.

you cant go wrong buying any seagate drive

What are they like for noise? I could do with a 120GB one, I've currently got a 40GB samsung and I cannot hear it at all.

I've got a seagate 80gb IDE one and i've yet to hear it. Most important thing to me in the reliability and seagate have one of the best reputations on this front.
Can't really comment on the speed as i've got nothing to compare it to but i've never noticed it being slow.

If i were buying again i'd get a seagate.

Seagate for me, the 5400.3s are absolutely astonishing drives, feel as snappy as 7200RPM Desktop drives and are cool and quiet.

Have a 100GB 7200.1 IDE, very fast 50MB/s Transfer rate, takes 3 seconds to copy 150MB file to it from Seagate 7200.9, on par if not better than the 7200.9... Drive Whining/Idle is not that loud at all, not as loud as 3.5" Drives..,
