I've bought an icy box ib-282U and a Spinpoint 80Gb (2.5"). Installed the drivers for the onetouch software. When I plug in the drive I get

One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.

Tried searching the disk for other drivers, nothing.

Tried under the admin tools- disk management - does not show up.

WT?....

Anyone got any ideas?

I used to get that with my old 3.5" external disk. It was down to the caddy being a bit naff rather than the disk, it would take 3 or 4 attempts at plugging the disk in to get windows to recognise it. The problem though is that with a 2.5" caddy you're likely powering it through the USB cable to repeatedly plugging and unplugging the USB cable is going to cause the disk to spin up and down all the time - not a good plan.

Hmmm... reading around it should be a good caddy, and should just plug and play, I suspect it is broken - will have to chat to the shop on Monday - real nuisance - 0 for 2 on the packages today  Having a close look at the inards the wiring looks a complete mess - oh well.
