2.5" RAID

At the moment i have 2 x 500GB WD RE3's in a RAID 0 configuration.

Tbh they are a bit noisy and there seems to be a fair bit of vibration too.

They are housed in an Antec Atlas 550 case as my workstation so they are on trays and isolated with rubber grommets.

I recently wondered if I had had a brainwave!...........

Could I raid three 2.5" high capacity drives and cut down on the noise and vibration and have RAID 0 or 5 with the same performance?

I was looking at the Seagate 500GB SAS drives, but then realised they were just 3.5" and not 2.5" like most of the other enterprise drives.

So in short to sum up... can I raid 2, 3, or 4 2.5" drives and get decent performance with quiet operation?

Opinions welcome.

You could raid up a load of 2.5 drives, would have good average read/ writes, but the random access times would suffer.
Also would cost a lot more
